Snooze worthy matchups outside of the Battles of Florida and Ontario. Rooting for upsets in the Eastern Conference.

The first round of the playoffs is a great time to be a hockey fan. Teams are fresh and hungry, and trying to establish that they're not going to be pushed around, and we're spoiled for options of games to watch.

I like to put together some parlays makes the games more exciting for me. 1st and 2nd round are able to do that more.

Last year, I had a perfect bracket. Tbh it was easy. A bunch of teams matched up with and lost to teams they always lose to.

Toronto played Boston. Boston played Florida. Carolina played the Rangers. The Rangers played anybody good that's not Carolina. All losses.

This year is a lot harder.

Vegas is better than I thought they were. Tampa's actually good this year. No Boston, so we don't know what Toronto is.

The only super easy call is Carolina coming out of the Metro. They don't have a single top 10 xGF% team in that bracket. Other than Ovechkin, there's also no gamebreakers they're running into, and let's be honest, Ovechkin has one Cup. He's containable.

Tampa and Florida are playing a coin-toss matchup in the first round that's an absolute bracket destroyer. The winner is probably the favorite to win the Cup. They're bracketed with a cupcake second round and then Carolina's sorry ass. The Eastern Conference Finals is in the first round.

But I have to pick the winner of that round and I don't want to.

And then there's the West which is spinning a wheel. Could be any of Edmonton, Vegas, LA, or Colorado.

I want anyone of these former Rangers to win the Cup. Ryan Lindgren and Jimmy Vesey in Colorado. Neal Pionk in Winnipeg. They couldn't be jettisoned fast enough for this fanbase. Well maybe not Vesey. Definitely Lindgren and Pionk though.

I root for most former Rangers. In the playoffs Zooks will always be my first choice. I would be happy for Lindy and Vesey though as well.

Ducks just fired Cronin. Thank goodness! Lavi has to be next? Maybe will get a package deal and Dolan fires Drury also.
With the season that just happened and the Panarin situation, maybe a clean slate is necessary. Purge everything from this roster except Shesterkin and JT Miller. This includes Panarin and Fox.

Connor Hellebucyk is about to win his third Vezina and just put up Hasek numbers at a time when the league average save percentage is back to 1980s levels.

And it feels like no one talks about it because no one trusts goaltending numbers any more.

Also, that Pionk deal is precisely why you don't trade Adam Fox. Who wants to pay a mediocre OFD 7 million a year? We've got an all situations #1 for less than 10.

Hellebucyk also historically shots the bed in the playoffs. That's definitely part of the narrative surrounding his great numbers. Maybe this year will be different.
