Around the NHL: Part XLIV 2025)

I do not know which stats say what but as much as I hated to admit it Bossy was that special as a goal scorer. Gretz was probably the best player of all time but Bossy was probably the best pure goal scorer I ever saw play. He just had incredible sniper ability. Natural goal scoring instincts. I never would have admitted that from 1978 till around 2000. It was so annoying lol :D

And yet gretzky routinely had more goals than him the years they played in the league together. For all this pure goal scoring ability bossy only led the league in goals 2 years i think. Gretzky led the other 6 years they played in the league together.

How about GPG over their careers? Mike Bossy is highest in NHL history.

2nd is Gretzky right? No, it's Lemiuex.
Gretzky next? Nope. "Modern NHL" - Bure, Matthews, Ovechkin and then Gretzky.

I'll say this - Gretzky's back issues did bring his goal production down, for sure.

But so did Bossy's.
I mean the reason why bossy holds that record is because he only played 10 years and didnt play into his late 30’s like gretzky did. Lets not pretend that he would have had the same numbers if he played another 8- 10 years. He wouldnt, they would almost assuredly be lower

And the stats backed this up. If gretzky reited the same year has bossy, gretzky would have the highest gpg. If gretzky retired after 10 seasons like bossy, he would have had the highest gpg not Bossy.

Thats why stats only tell partial stories. Bossy was playing for a coach that stressed defense. Playing good defense as both an individual and as a team is what was expected by Al Arbour. That worked with 4 straight cups

Your right stats dont tell the whole story. Grezky looked to pass first. Imagine how many more goals he would have scored if he was shoot first! And yet he still outscored Bossy.

I mean if we are going to move goal posts and play the what if game.

Gretz was the best passer around and deserves all the praise for that. He was a great goal scorer as well. Im still totally comfortable saying Bossy was the greatest natural goal scorer I ever saw. Its not a shot at Gretz. Gretz was one of my favorite players of all time while I hated Bossy. Just being honest.

And thats fine. But statistically gretz was better the years they played in the league at the same time and through their first 10 years.

But now we will have a new best of all time. Ovechkin. And he deserves it. The consistency is unprecedented and i think he led the league in scoring the most out of anybody.

And he missed two or three years of playing. Lockout year, half lockout year. Covid half season. He probably would have over 950 goals now.

Just curious did you watch Bossy play? Not sure how old you are so I don't know if you are just judging by stats.

This whole Duclair being lazy and being called out by Pat Roy and then taking some time off to reflect, I'll tell ya, the problem ain't Patty Roy.

You don't need time off if you're committed and serious to the craft. Time off is just EBT talk for quitting on your team.

His contract includes a full no-trade clause through 2026.

Both jackets and canadiens losing... figures. Ridiculous how many chances this team has been gifted to even stay in this race. Cant win a game if their life depended on it.
so much for that Montreal and their 3rd period comebacks...well thats the nail in coffin pretty much

Suzuki literally by himself surrounded by Flyers for an amazing shortie. I can't help but look at these players and keep comparing them to Laf. Don't even need to compare other 1OA's either, but Suzuki is making only 400k more than Laf's next contract and is trying to push 90 points before the season is over and showing up to make the playoffs. He was a 60 point player when he got that contract and has improved every year even though the Habs have been a terrible team for a time now.

All the washed up vets need to go and even Panarin. Only way the youth will hopefully become something more.

Why are you comparing Laf with Suzuki

If anything compare him with Slaf which is younger and flirting if 50 as a first overall pick too

And to think they were trying to practically get rid of Suzuki a few years ago...

What about Bobby Hull who has 610 in the NHL but played 7 seasons in the WHA?

I wonder where he would've ranked (total goals) if he played those seasons in the NHL. (Currently 19th)
