Around the NHL: Part XLIV 2025)

Ovie’s 4 away now.

People love to say he’s just a one trick pony, but I’ve seen plenty of goals this year that haven’t been from his office and he’s tied for 15th in points per game in the entire NHL at 39 year olds. He’s also tied for 3rd in the league in goals, despite breaking his leg at 39 years olds, and 2nd in the NHL in goals per game.

Basically, he’s a f***ing maniac.

The one tick pony argument has always been a goofy one.

His one trick is scoring goals which is as definitive as production can get and he’s better at it than anyone who has ever played.

Sauced to the tits or not, he’s still buzzing at 39. It’s too bad he lost so many games to lockouts and a global pandemic because he would have broken 1000.

It looks like the Florida Panthers used Lavy's system last night. 17 seconds left and they have two forwards in way too deep on the goal line who didn't skate hard to get back, a failed poke check on the blue line looking exactly like a K'andre Miller type of play, a forward falling down in front of the net, and Barkov just casually loafing around the defensive zone doing nothing.

Indeed....if he hadn't broken his leg earlier, the record would have been shattered by now.

Perhaps. He isn’t a model of fitness, so even if he is, I don’t necessarily think that’s all the edge he has. He’s just a different breed. But at the same time, even though this is 99% likely… let’s not pretend that 75% of the players over 35 that have been in his shoes haven’t also been. Ovie is a human meatball. We don’t think Thornton or Chara or Burns or whomever had also been on PEDs? I mean, I used a shit ton in my big lifting years, so I actually know intimately what they do and don’t do for you. Saying Ovie is on them may be true, but acting like Matthews hairline, Getzlaf, Shattenkirk, etc. weren’t also symptoms of the same or that guys like Burns weren’t also using is totally naive. And that’s the point. They all use. Ovie is STILL Ovie.

You misunderstand, I’m in awe of the guy either way .

Really hope Ovi breaks the record this year, because if he's one goal away you just know Gary is DYING to schedule the Rangers for them on opening night.

Rempe should take fighting lessons from McIlrath.

Bruins guy did well considering the reach/size difference and even got some good shots in (Rempe in comparison got completely worked by McIlrath earlier this year) but McIlrath is a smart scrapper.

The aftermath was funny, Boston guy looked like death was currently besieging him while McIlrath could have been about to order a margarita.

I was watching the game live & they interview McIrath at the intermission after the fight. Looked like he just showed up to the rink about to take the ice for the pregame skate.

Imagine if McIlrath gets a cup and Lundqvist never did?
I root for Dylan. I did as a Ranger but I really respect him and how he has handled his career. He was made a joke for years. He had knee injuries. Many people figured he was done but he kept at it for years in the minors and its nice to see that dedication pay off a bit.
