Was gonna say, “unpopular opinion: bring him back”, but it seems others feel similarly. Either him or Q. Don’t care.

I know everyone loves a misanthrope coach who will belittle players constantly and make them bag skate until they puke, but that style of coach is a relic of the past for me. Tortorella was not what the Flyers or any other team needed, and hopefully he can retire and focus on his many hobbies, among which I figure must be shooting bottles with pictures of kittens on them.
I want the current core out and bring in T to work with a new core of blue collar players. Fundamentals first, finish your checks, etc etc. You know: play the right way and all that.Torts can come here and scream at guys and skate them ragged in practice, and it might shock the guys into a good year or maybe even two. But it's hardly a recipe for sustained success and at this point would be liking putting lipstick on a pig.
Very interesting that a guy who has not seen a final in over 20 years is looked at as the "play the right way" coach. I know its because of his saying it but he had a problem with McDavid when he was commentating. Ill take McDavid not playing Torts right way.I want the current core out and bring in T to work with a new core of blue collar players. How about both? Throw in Babcock too.Was gonna say, “unpopular opinion: bring him back”, but it seems others feel similarly. Either him or Q. Don’t care.
Id like to see him score 30 goals. I think only around 8 Dmen have done that.Makar legit about to have back to back 90 point seasons. Lol. He's also a career +135. What a f***ing beast.

I like to see elite guys do spectacular things. I remember when Coffey and Wilson scored 40-48 goals. That amazed me.That would be amazing. 10 games left for those guys and he needs 3.
I know we suck this year, but having a D-man 4 goals from outscoring your whole team is just depressing.

I wonder what the real record for a Rangers Dman is. I know Gresch and Reijo scored in the mid to upper 20s but they may have got some as forwards.
If he is still like that then sure, bring him in. I want to see him bring players up from Hartford to play if vets don't play hard. This group deserves John Tortorella. They'd either play hard or they wouldn't play.
You said it... do not want.Of course Montreal is losing to the Flyers who just fired Torts. The hockey gods are literally handing the Rangers a playoff spot that they do not want.
Thanks but were some of Gresh and Reijos goals as forwards in those big years?

84-85 sounds about right for Reijo. I think Gresch played some forward in a couple of seasons spread out by years. I think Craig Patrick as coach liked him at forward but the overwhelming majority of his games were at defense.Boss, I don't even remember what I had for dinner 3 days ago. You're asking me who scored where in the 70s and 80s? This might help though...
Player Discussion Thread 'Older fans - when did Ron Greschner play forward?'
I'm wondering when Ron Greschner played some forward. From what I'm told, it was never for a full season but it was enough that his goals records aren't recognized by the team.
Based on estimated TOI (18 minutes) it looks like 1986 is a slam dunk that he was a forward a lot. But other than that, I'm not sure. 1978, 1980 and 1981 are all possibilities as well (his other 20+ goal seasons); however, his estimated TOI is still high, suggesting he might not have played forward enough to drag his TOI average down to a noticeable level (like 1986).
Another possibility entirely is that he...

On Reijo, I know Brooks did eventually move him up to fwd and I loosely recall that did impact his 84-85 numbers
Yup.Not to labour your point, but Torts and his wife actually have an animal rescue foundation set up and, if I remember right, they own a ranch with dozens of rescued horses and dogs.
