Around the NHL - Part XLIII

Phil was a great skating offensive guy but not a great defender. I'm really curious if he is having a negative effect. I don't see what I think of as sound positioning on defense. I see guys all over the place.
I see guys like that all over the ice . Do they ever practice or do they just give a puck to Panarin and chase him around looking for an errant pass to some spot far away on the ice . That would be the offense....because we all know they sure as Hell do not practice the defense . Dear God.....the coaching is PATHETIC and we look so out of shape versus our opponents......it is terrible .

Im okay with no positions inside the other teams blueline but on defense we have to play positional hockey. Being out of shape in todays NHL is nuts but our guys motors are average at best. Our lineups in practice look really low on talent.

The way the passes to the points are juggled so often by the shooters has me wondering why for some teams it is an instant shot.....we still have to tee them up before we get one away into the pads of the 3 defenders who had time to line up for the block....

I don't know. Could it be point guys worried about pucks jumping over their sticks?

Can’t recall a team whose d zone coverage is so easily confused by routine offensive pressure, often leaving players wide open in the slot. Seems like this system leaves little room for error, is the potential upside really worth it?

Noticed something really aggravating when they’re defending the rush, particularly 2 v 2 and 3 v 3. Several times the puck carrier would just pull up as they were getting into the slot and the defender would either continue backing up or just stop, leaving this huge gap that allows an uncontested shot through traffic. With any other goalie I think this system would have been scrapped long ago.

I think you kind of nailed it. Too many things can and have gone wrong with this system. I really would prefer to play more positional hockey instead of chase the guy with the puck.

It's really gross. Grow a pair you whiny, entitled p***yes.

NHL has been NBA-ified. Fans root for players instead of teams at a much higher clip than I've ever experienced in the sport. Makes the players feel entitled. Pastrnak is out to lunch if he's picking a fight with Marchand and expects to come out on top. Even if Marchy goes in the summer, Pasta is barking up the wrong tree. He's never won in Boston.

There's a 3 way trade idea with Kreider, Marchand and JT Miller for someone more creative.
