Ruff was a good coach for the Sabes, he had a nice run but the change was a bit overdue.

I wonder what they think of Mike Sullivan?

Oh, and my condolences to the Sabres franchise if this were to come to fruition.

Agreed. Just was never quite able to get the team over the hump. Dealt with a ton of roster turnover thanks the cheap-assed ownership pre-Pegula but still managed to stay competitive most years.

It makes sense.

Get Ruff in here to run the power play, get a feel for the team. Sullivan leaves in the off-season to a head coaching gig somewhere, Ruff joins Torts on the bench as an assistant.

Lindy has some ties to the Rangers organization, played three years here. Torts has ties to the Sabres, but was never an assistant there while Ruff was head coach.

Although, some evidence suggests otherwise. My four years in Buffalo my Sabres friends were always less than impressed with the power play. However, if that's all Lindy would have to focus on (this season at least) his hockey mind could make it work. The Rangers certainly have the talent to make it work for him.

Sabres PP:

12/13: 29th, 12.9% (still better than the Rangers!)
11/12: 16th, 17%
10/11: 9th, 19.4%
09/10: 17th, 17.6%
08/09: 7th, 21%
07/08: 14th, 18%
06/07: 17th, 17.4%
05/06: 3rd, 21.2%

He's Lindy Ruff. Why would he accept a PP coaching job?

He'd get signed by another team in 3 seconds as the HC.

Oh for sure. But, it's an opportunity to take on a project on a good team. Stays in the NY area (can summer in Buffalo easy if that's what he so chooses). An opportunity to work for a team he once played for. An opportunity to take on a team with Stanley Cup aspirations.

He'd almost guarantee pushing Sullivan out, so there's that too :naughty:

I just know I'd get flamed even harder if I posted what I really want to happen, so I will refrain.

I mean, it all sounds so lovely on paper, but I just don't see this happening.

If I was proven wrong though....

Eh, Lindy's Sabres were 2nd last in PP% ahead of you know who. Still, it's good to have a guy with his experience around. Doubt Torts wants him though, since the bench is for him and Sully.

Wasn't Torts an assistant to Ruff for a short time in Buffalo in the late 90s? That would be kind of neat if Ruff was hired as an assistant to Torts this time around.

I am..going to be extremely pissed - in which case I'll build a patio - if the Islanders were to fire Capuano and hire Ruff.

Sather, get to it!

@TSNBobMcKenzie

No confirmations yet but hearing Ron Rolston (coaching Rochester in AHL) as possible and perhaps likely replacement in BUF.

Jeff Skinner with another concussion, it seems.

Can't wait for the Pens-Flyers game tonight. Will be 100x as exciting as the game yesterday.

Anyone else think that Lindy Ruff is the Jeff Fisher of the NHL? Stayed a really long time with one franchise. They were good more years than not. Lost in the finals/Super Bowl. Seems like that 1 loss for both bought them a lot of years.
