Yep. I truly believe McIlrath will be a monster bottom pairing d-man who fans will love, here in NY. That said, Tarasenko is going to be better than 9/12 of the forwards on this team, maybe better. Passing on him for a good #5/6 was a mistake of large proportions.

Just missed scoring his 3rd goal just now. Kid is gonna be a good one.

Also scoring tonight - Jagr(4 points!), Korpikoski, Wolski, Kovalev(3 points), Mitchell, Anisimov(and a SO goal as well) and Tyutin with 2 assists.

For the life of me I don't know why the Rangers were bold in getting Chere (RIP) but lost all of their balls on a probably a better prospect in Tarasenko for a guy that MIGHT be a #4 D-man when we had a lot of good D-men in the system and in the NHL. It's mind boggling. It's a terrible mistake. All of our best forwards are either 30+ or almost 30. Meanwhile we have to pray that Kreider gets 50 points.

You really don't get why the team was shy about taking a Russian prospect after their high-end Russian prospect died under somewhat mysterious circumstances, possibly involving the trainers over there?

Anisimov has world class talent.

Torts put him in a grinding role and that made him lose confidence. With CBJ, I expect a breakout year, 38 pts.

Yeah, I don't understand it. Our russian prospect DIED of cardiac arrest playing in the KHL. That's happened exactly... once, so why not NOT draft a FAR superior talent because of it. Totally makes sense, you're right. Glad St. Louis was thinking the same way.

This sounds a little paranoid, don't you think?

please take your rational thinking somewhere else...due to the lockout this place is long overdue for an irrational mental breakdown. i miss them and you won't ruin this for me with your logic

Zach Parise is off to a great start with the Wild. 2A on two goals by Heatley.

Didn't Cherepanov have a heart condition? Give me a break. It happened one time. They're worried that something that happened once will happen again? It's like not flying because plains crash one time in a million. The chances of this happening are even lower. For that reason they decide to forego a guy that has superstar talent for a what might be an average defenseman if he's lucky? When we have guys like Staal, Girardi, MDZ (coming off a good season no less), and McDonagh either in the system or in the NHL? Atrocious. Even if McIlrath becomes another McDonagh, this was a bad pick. We have enough young D-men. Oh and his ceiling is probably not that high even. Terrible asset allocation.

The ambulance wasn't at the game and took a while to get there, didn't have a defibrillator either. Also, he was doping, which has been explained as medicating for his condition with which he should not have been playing. So either the trainers were negligent or they were involved and incompetent. I'm not saying Sather was right in not wanting to take a Russian playing over there, but I am saying his hesitance could make sense.

Yep, very rational. One guy dies because he had a heart condition and you're terrified another guy that's completely unrelated to that dies so you draft a far more inferior player to him. I hope you don't live your life terrified like that.

In terms of pure talent level... 5 teams after the Rangers and at least 5 teams before the Rangers passed on him and took players that were "lesser" in that draft for the combination of the distrust of Russian trainers/medical system and distrust of Russian prospects coming over to North America. Stop with the melodrama.

How many other examples of this do you have? Give me a break. One guy dies tragically and that turns this organization into a bunch of pansies that betray their fans. At least Jessiman had a high ceiling. We'll get a #4 D-man when we had a ******** of young D-men in the organization. Jessiman was a better pick. At least it was ballsy. The Rangers lost their balls and went with a guy that may become a #4 D-man because one guy died.

The Rangers took Pashnin and Grachev from Russia since Cherapanov, I think it's safe to assume that they didn't pick Tarasenko for other reasons. One of them probably being that he signed a contract with his KHL club.

It doesn't matter. Tarasenko is a flat out world class player. He could be the next Kovalchuk, IMO. McIlrath, like I said, is going to be a a MONSTER... of a bottom pair d-man. He'll be great at his role and be a fan favorite, but he'll be the kind of player you can add for 2M a year. Tarasenko is going to be the kind of player this team is DYING for and if we could swap Tarasenko for McIlrath and maybe a defensive prospect for Kreider or Miller, we'd be much better off. Not drafting Tarasenko because of the Cherepanov incident is a horrendous excuse. Supposedly they wanted McI going into the draft. I do think he'll be a good #5, but that simply doesn't jutify not taking Tarasenko.

Betrayed their fans? You give me a break. It doesn't matter how many examples there are. It happened to Sather's prospect, therefore Sather is going to be affected differently than others.

Grachev was taken before his death. Pashnin was taken in the last round.
