I’ve seen a lot of goal scorers and point producers over the years - elite, HOF players.

Aside from Gretzky and Lemieux, there are two goal scorers who I can remember giving me knots in my stomach.

Pavel Bure and Alex Ovechkin.

Two very different players, but both of them were like watching someone walk a tightrope. You knew in a blink of an eye they could turn the slightest mistake into a game-changing incident.

You mean John Druce circa April of 1990 didn't give you those same types of knots either?hmmm... lol

In all seriousness, agreed about Bure and Ovie as those two are and were game changers. The guy that did it for me and gave me agida everytime we played vs him was Mike Bossy.

He was just plain filthy and to me the greatest sniper in NHL history.

There we go....Kassian and Tkachuk drop the gloves as expected but it was the unexpected Nugent Hopkins bout vs Monahan which was a much better fight that got the festivities off too a flying start.

I think there is some more fireworks coming up...stay tuned

The NHL needed to air the battle of Alberta on NBC Sports. I’m sorry, but the Kings suck, nobody wants to stay up late to watch that **** ass team. The fans want to see blood, show the Alberta rivalry game. I guarantee you nobody cares about LA versus Tampa. Then again, the league doesn’t want to glorify fighting, yet they rearranged the playoff format to “promote rivalries”. They want to promote rivalries yet they frown upon the Kassian/Tkachuk stuff. The league talks out of both sides of their mouths. This was a golden opportunity to nationally televise a rivalry game.

Well said as the only one's who care about a Kings/Tampa game are probably peeps like me who own Vasilevsky and Point in fantasy. But other than that no one is watching this game.

It's just another example of how the league still doesn't get it as this Flames Oilers game might have been the most anticipated game of the year and for it not to be on nationally here in the States is pretty poor decision making by the suits over at NBC.

I'm starting to get a sneaking suspicion that it's not going to be Washington or Boston who comes out of the East this year but instead it's going to be the Tampa Bay.

Something about the fact that last year despite their magical regular season and their choking in the playoffs compared to this season where they struggled the first 6 weeks and now the past two months their finding their way has me starting to think that this year just might be their year to finally get the monkey off their back.

I dunno, I'm just getting that feeling that they learned from last year that putting all your eggs in the basket for mega regular season success is not they way to win a Cup. Instead, they have been one of the best teams in the league the past 2 months and they look like they will head into the playoffs this year with a new mindset as unlike last season where they were heavy favorites to come out of the East, this time they won't be expected to come out of the East and I think that will serve them well.

Count me in as someone who now thinks the Lightning and not the Caps or the Bruins will be representing the East in the Cup final vs likely the Blues or the Avalanche. We'll see soon enough!

The Sens are sitting really pretty. The Sharks really suck and it might be more likely they sell at the deadline rather than buy. It really is crazy that they will have 2 top 5 picks possibly in a pretty good draft. Especially after the debacle of the Duchene trade when they lost their first rounder (Byram).

You can add in Brett Hull too. [EDIT] and LaFleur & Bossy & Bondra.....and I am sure a few others are buried deep in our heads LOL... then again...Hull not really a big Ranger threat . Bure for sure in the 94 Finals...he was a double rye and 7 every time he was on the ice .

I found it hard to believe that the refs who were hand picked allowed the Oiler forwards to leave their feet on some hits and just hurtle into Calgary defenders and let them remain unpenalized . It's a good thing they missed on a couple of plays like that or all Hell would have broke loose . Those IMO were calls that HAD to be made . Saturday night it will be VICIOUS if somebody gets a three goal lead in the third.

Holy crap that is horrible news for the Sharks. That franchise is truly screwed for a long long time. They have nothing to sell and unfortunately now won't be buyers either. The EK trade will turn out to be worse than the Duchene trade Dorion made for the future of that team.

Imagine the Rangers were in the position the Sharks are right now. HFNYR would be a containment zone. I would worry for the well being of some of the posters here, myself included. What a cursed season they are having and its only going to get worse.

It's like the season Ottawa faced last year. You go through all of that misery, and then you don't even get the first round pick for it.

And last year, Ottawa was a team that was looking at their pick possibly being the top pick without the aid of the lottery.
