Sloppy start for both teams, but the Blackhawks looked like the worse of the two. Colorado definitely outplayed them. Props, though, they capitalized on their PP, that's what elite teams can do when they're not producing at ES.

The Rangers have been doing it lately, at least. Their PP is the only reason they beat the Sabres.

The Avs have been playing pretty well in the neutral zone tonight. They've been slowing down Chicago, but Chicago is still getting a couple of quality chances, more chances than the Avs have been getting. They look a LOT better in this 2nd period. The Avs need to generate some offense. Varlamov is the reason this is a tied game.

Hawks need to settle down. Put pressure on Colorado's D when they have the puck, they're severely lacking in offensively skilled defenseman. Hejda, O'Brien, Hunwick, and O'Byrne all handle the puck like a live grenade.

I really don't understand all the Emerick hate.

He's a fantastic play-by-play guy. He says some annoying things (waffleboard, ugh), but he's better than 95% of the PBP guys in this league. Humble guy, too.

Saying he wished there was a way to 'get rid of' the style the Avs are playing.

I give them credit, they're playing the way they need to to beat a team of the Hawks' caliber. It's slowing them down, forcing turnovers and bad passes. They've still gotten chances, but they do look a bit frustrated out there at times. Especially with the performance Varlamov is putting up.

Fair enough.

Ever since I met the guy at a Devils/Rangers preseason game in '09, I've been a huge fan. I had VIP tickets (this girl just randomly asked me if I wanted to go for free, obviously not turning that down), and I actually had a chance to meet Emerick (also had a conversation with Joe Micheletti about trading Dubinsky for Heatley). He was pretty humble, I told him it was honor to meet him and he lit up and seemed surprised that I even knew who he was.
