Around the NHL - Part 1

I wonder what McDavid is thinking. Once you break it all down, the Oilers weren't close. Looking back, they were lucky to beat LA. The Oilers are an old team. The Oilers have a lot of decisions to make. One of their best players in the playoffs is 40 yrs. old.

Losing Hyman in the Dallas series did them in.

Florida is a very deep team.

Edmonton not so much. Hyman was a BIG part of their forechecking offense with McDavid and they didn't have anyone who could fill the shoes.

Losing Hyman hurt, but he is only one player. This series wasn't close, and the Oilers are old, and those old players have another year on their contract. It will be interesting how the Oilers navigate this to get better.

It went over your head again….

The point was with Hyman the Oilers had barely enough players to get the job done had Hyman not gone down.

Losing him basically threw all that out and it showed in the Dallas series given how they were playing before and after his injury.

I wonder what Bennett and Marchand are thinking.
At 28 Bennett is looking to sign a huge contract.

At 37 Marchand might take a pay cut but could lock down a 2-yr deal. I know he had a huge series, but his production has dropped off the last couple of years and he ain't getting any younger.

OTOH, 39 YO Ovechkin had a monster year.

Well, Bennett screamed "I'm not effin leaving" during the post victory party.

Marchand might stay for cheap to keep winning.

I'm definitely not saying Florida can't win again but the League is planning to stop the $20 million over the Cap Cup runs so it's about to get a little more level in the competition.

Don't forget Marchand had a injury this year.
