What is your thought on Miller, Pettersson and Toc this year?

I haven't been following VAN much at all. Most of my time watching hockey is Utah and whoever they're up against on any given night. But based on what I have heard...

It's a turn off for me when a team's management is willing to blast a player to the media. Leads me to believe that they're a big part of the problem at hand. It just screams shitty workplace environment, IMO.

If there's a rift in the locker-room between Pettersson and JTM then one of them has to go. I wonder how much truth there is to it or how much it's been blown up. VAN media and fanbase sounds ruthless.

I'm not sure what to think about Tocchet. I think he sucked coaching here but did great with VAN last season. Maybe he settles somewhere in-between the two. If there is a rift and he can't sort it out (not always possible) then management has to do it via trade or a new coach. I don't think a new coach is the answer. Sometimes two players just need to be separated no matter who the coach is.

I do have concerns about his attitude or whatever, but the way VAN is acting it makes it easier to look past, for me. It could be that VAN is toxic for him and he'd be fine anywhere else.

USA v Canada was an ok contest after the first 9 seconds. Gooning it up for no reason isn't how you grow the game.
Couldn't disagree more. Both these teams are so talented, want to win, emotions running sky high. I would love to see a 8 games summit series, like the 72 Russia, Canada series. We all know this 4 Nation series is really 2 Nation series. USA have come a long way, and really are now equal to Canada in every way, and Canada wants to prove they are still the best. Ask any hockey fan and they will tell you they want to see these two teams in the final after what they say today.

The Hagel/Tchafool thing has been brewing for the last year or so. The Panturd tool thought it was a good idea to open with an invite to a guy he outweighs by 30 lbs. Hagel held his own though. I was disappointed that Bennet didn’t clean the brothers’ clock. That said, as much as it pains me to say it, Cooper got outcoached and the US defense was stout. Did MacK lace ‘em up? (CA also missed Makar, badly).

I think the boys were getting pissed about the anthem being booed, which is stupid and doesn’t belong in the game. The Tkachuk boys did what they should have done.

But if this were a true international competition, say the Olympics, there wouldn't have been any fights. Would the hockey be just as good? Of course it would.

I guess we should encourage our kids to act the same way then.
The Olympics is nothing more than a figure skating contest. I want Canada and the US to have a summit series.

I reckon it depends on what level your kids are playing at. Yeah, it was pretty bush league, but we witnessed the exception, not the rule.
I don't think it was bush league. I really enjoyed it. Call me old fashion or whatever, but that had glimpses of NHL hockey in the 80's. Players did what it took to win. Everyone should watch the 72 Summit Series. It had everything.

Bush league by today’s standard. I played in both the 70’s and 80’s and I’d say it was more akin to the 70’s than the eighties, but it was definitely akin to today’s lower levels of hockey, albeit for different reasons.
Having said that, I’ll admit I miss the intimidation factor of the seventies and prior decades.

I agree regarding Hughes/Makar.

Take away the instigator penalty, then you'll see less trash talking and the chippy play because those players will have to back it up.

I'm guessing most of you Folks wouldn't want to try to take a look at why the anthem was booed? That might be a good point to direct your anger.

The players, partuculaly tkafools, don’t care about anthems. Matt has had run ins with Hagel for well over a year. I know because I follow the Bolts as a former 20+ year STH. And I’ve seen enough of 19 to last a lifetime. ( I didn’t care door the old man either.). US squad is well aware that the boos are not personally directed at them.

I think most of us know exactly why the anthem was booed. I'm a Canadian, born and raised in Alberta Canada and I said 50 yrs. ago Alberta should sperate from the rest of Canada. Alberta carry's Canada on their back every year. I have no anger with what is happening.

I don't think you know much if you think Alberta carries Canada? Ontario is the economic engine of Canada by a large margin. Alberta does, however, lift more than their share per capital.

Yeah. It’s politics. Something that should have nothing to do with sports. But I guess you don’t want to separate sports and politics.

I didn't boo and would be highly unlikely to ever boo an anthem but if you don't want the opportunity for politics to be involved the only answer for that is to never play the anthem. And remember Canadians never asked your President to join or to ridicule their Leader.

Back to the 4 Nations. I have beat the drum for years that I would pretty much never draft or sign a player who wasn't an above average skater and I think this version of Team Canada makes my case again. There are 4 or 5 Players on this team that are pedestrian at best skaters and last night's game really showed that weakness. While I think you can survive skating with one or 2 great players I'm not sure you can make up for having 1 or 2 on the ice most of the game.

Of course this event isn't over yet and any team can still win but I thought the US and for a lot of previous game Sweden got to pucks faster than the Canadian Team could.

I’ve iced it up with Canadians from Yellowknife to Newfie for over 40 years. Love ‘em all, and the country has the same rural/urban schisms we do here in the excited states. In Amalie arena in 20+ years, I’ve heard yanks singing O’Canada as well as the guys from TO or Montreal mouthing the Star Spangled. We’ve been valued and trusted partners for two centuries. But, someone has mucked it up, and it ain’t Trudeau. That said, when the Maple Leaf and the Stars and Stripes meet in a few days, we should ALL be fans of HOCKEY.
