In terms of proven players most teams have taken a step back.

Rangers didn't add anyone of great significance. They could have if they'd cut Richards. The Rangers did add more depth and if a couple young players like Kreider, Del Zotto, John Moore or Miller step up we should be a very good team. We lack somewhat in the mean and physical department.

Penguins may have concerns about their forward depth. They've locked up some important guys. They're going to need some of their young--Despres, Bennett to prove themselves as well. Scuderi helps their D but they may still be a bit weak and their goaltending sometimes suspect.

Flyers--bringing in LaCavalier--plenty of forward depth. Streit adds offense to their D but doesn't necessarily improve the defense in their own end and they're a bit old there. Goaltending very suspect. They never seem to fix that. They are also over the cap and may have to cut someone significant.

Islanders--like the forward group led by Tavares. A young upcoming team. Not a lot of experienced depth on defense and no longer have a pwp qb. They do have a bunch of great prospects who should plug some of the bigger holes. Goaltending is suspect.

Devils--could be the oldest team in the league. To compete they are going to have to get a lot of mileage out of players who already have a ton of mileage. Not a lot of creativity at forward. A decent defense with some good d prospects and a very good pickup with Schneider in goal. Defense is going to be their thing. Don't see them as a playoff team.

Hurricanes--should have a very good offense--an average at best defense. Ward can be an excellent goalie. Longshot for the playoffs IMO depending on Ward standing on his head and offense running on all cylinders.

Capitals--A bit weak in forward depth--a pretty decent defense and pretty good goaltending. This team has not played in such a competitive division as it will this year. Wait and see how that plays out. Team could make playoffs or not.

Bluejackets--Bobrovsky playing like last year is a key. Horton if healthy and Gaborik give them two potential big time goal scorers. A little weak on experience and depth--they do have some worthwhile youth. It's possible they make the playoffs but I think they're a longshot.

Bogosian comes from Massena, NY. His brother played for SLU.

So I can say even with local bias, he is one of the most overrated defensemen in the NHL today. That the Rangers got McDonagh at his figure, vs Bogo on his, is crazy.

No doubt Bogosian is thrilled. But compared to how happy he is, Alex Pietrangelo must be positively giddy. Bogosian was originally drafted third overall by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2008 NHL Draft, so he stands as something of a comparable to be used by Pietrangelo, who went one pick later to St Louis. It’s thought that Pietrangelo is looking for something in the $7 million range. Given his resume — Norris finalist, top defenseman at the World Championship, 115 points in his first two-and-a-half seaseons — and using the Bogosian deal as a backdrop, he has a decent case to make. He’s going to get his money.

And now that the Bogosian deal is done, look for Pietrangelo’s to be sealed shortly.

Jesus H!!!! I thought Pietrangelo was going to get paid, but 7+??? :amazed: How the hell are they going to make that happen with a cap of 64.3 million??? I guess that's why they started by unloading Perron....

I thought I heard on the radio that Petro has said he isn't accepting anything that doesn't have a 7 in front of it, but I also heard he has instructed his agent to not accept any offersheets and just sign with the Blues. :dunno:

Sorry, meant to say not accepting anything unless it's got a 7 in it.

Anyway, Blues say they'll match anything so it would seem the best thing for him to do would be just sign a sheet. Blues are a low money team so it would really **** them, but it seems like Petro is in the drivers seat here somewhat.

LOL @ Bogo's contract. WOW. That's insanity. McDonagh >>>> Bobo.

Apparently I know **** all about the game since I said that McD is the better skater between the two. On the other hand that same guy said that McD was horrid offensively.

They are beyond excited about this deal over on the Jets board. Really think they got a steal with this contract.

Pavelski? I'm done with high priced UFA's at this point. Malkin is signed, Stamkos isn't UFA for another few years. No more dumb signings for 1b players.

I like Pavelski, but I wouldn't have chased him on the open market. I think Stepan will be every bit as good, and likely better within the next couple years.

Looks like a jeans model.

There was so much hype when Bogo was drafted, what happened with that?

They rushed him into the league and he's had a few issues with injuries as well. He's not a bad player by any stretch. He's a really solid 2nd pairing guy with room to grow, the criticism is that the Jets wagered pretty heavily that he's going to earn that big contract. McDonagh is already worth what he'll be making in the last year of his deal, IMO. You'd be hard pressed to say the same about Bogosian.

Man, there's nothing I wanted more then to turn on NHL network and have it be Penguins related.

They're mind readers!
