NO TRADES WITH EDM. What the hell is this Henrik trade stuff?!

It's based on Smith getting almost $6m, Rask likely getting $7m and the possibility of Hank getting $8.5+. Some, including me, think that is too much for your goalie, regardless of how awesome he is

Henrik will deal with $8M. There's a cap issue. He wants to win so he'll have to deal with it. Slats will give at least $7.5M-$8M. Of all players, I trust Henrik to back down on $500-$750

and what the hell is with the idea of dealing Henrik for Yak and DD?

Like.... hey guys, we're having a hard time deciding whether to give our goalie $8.5M instead of $7.5M so we're going to trade away the best goaltender in the world, explode our team's chances at success in the regular season, restructure the entire team, go into a rebuild given players will walk because we'll exclude ourselves from playoff contention for the next 3 years until we land a good goalie who will have to be great and dependable without a pedigree or enough experience to negotiate for a $5M+ contract AFTER we pay Yakupov or whoever is in the "trade" their fair $3M+!

Lundqvist has been my favorite player on this team since his arrival.

He is the best goaltender in franchise history, IMO, and if he is here long enough he will own every Rangers record and his number will most likely be in the rafters, Cup or no Cup.

All that said, holy cripes, 8 million dollar cap hit for a goaltender is lunacy. If that is the price to keep him, you trade him for a huge return and replace him with a young goaltender (that maybe you get in the return package in the trade).

Agreed 100%. It's sacrilege for some here, and I love Hank, but this guy isn't Patrick Roy. He's the best goaltender in the league, by a pretty fair amount, but he has yet to take this team to greater heights in the playoffs. His teams were never perfect, but were the '93 Montreal Canadiens really anything special? He broke down in the Devils series last year, flat out.

I want to keep him, for sure. But if he wants $9M+, I'd seriously consider trading him, he's garner an ENORMOUS return.

That Canadians team had 4 players score at better than a point per game and was not exactly weak on the defensive side. The Rangers offensive production pales against that.

I think Hank is in the class of Roy, already, even if I am in the minority. I don't judge goalies by Cups. I think Hasek was better than Osgood.

None of this means that I necessarily object to moving Hank due to the salary cap restrictions he causes. Obviously it would depend upon who would replace him.

Hank isn't shortsighted enough to completely dominate the cap with his market value and leave the team without the cap space to surround him with cup-winning talent.

1rst overall pick > Hank. Especially a Hank looking for an extension. No goalie is worth Yakupov or any other recent 1rst overalls IMO.

You're telling me you would rather have Yakupov than Hank? Please tell me I'm just reading what you said the wrong way...

At their respective stages in their careers, quite easily.

I don't see it possible for us to win a Cup without Hank in net. I know other teams have won with average goalies, but this is the Rangers we are talking about. This team has always needed Hank and it will stay that way.

I would trade 98-99% of all NHL players for the #1 overall pick in most years, so I'm not sure yours is a very meaningful declaration.

When you look back at a history of first picks, it becomes clear that you should not take anything but a forward:

This team hasn't really been close to winning the cup with Hank in his peak years with the exception of 1 season in 9 years. With Glen Sather's inability to construct a roster, I don't see this team winning a cup with him. You are correct, the team would get much worse without Hank, which might be a good thing..... I'd much rather roll the dice with a young, offensively-potent Yakupov and tank for top picks to surround him. I'm getting tired of Hank and non-elite, overpaid garbage FA retreads/trades.

Same here. Just clarifying that a 31 yr old goalie needing a new contract isn't worth one either. As with any goalie in the league IMO.

That's silly. Teams win the Cup on a regular basis without a great goaltender.

I don't want to lose him, though, especially for whatever the Village Idiot would get for him.

$58/8 for Letang. 15 teams he won't accept a trade to. That's a monster deal.

Renaud Lavoie ‏@RenLavoieRDS 1m
Kris Letang contract with Penguins. 8 years / 58 M (#58!) 7.25 AVV Limited no trade to 15 teams. #RDS

Add in Kunitz, Neal and Fleury.

how are they going to ice any other players?

Though i guess with those guys, you can just lean on your big guns to carry you.

And Martin haha. Another 18 million invested in those 4 players. So you have 43 million invested in 7 players.

There you have it Boys and Girls. Bob wants $6M a year. One good year in a shorten season and you want $6M a year? Seriously?!
