Price seems fair, but Seattle trading for another middle 6 winger is hilarious. I would have taken a swing on him for a late first too, right shot winger isn't a huge area of need, but 29th overall is minimum four years away and Sammy is NHL capable now.

Winnipeg will be so woefully irrelevant if they deal Hellebuyck. He’s not getting any younger, but I’d be shocked if they actually pull the trigger.

You've gotta wonder if all these strongarm trade tactics actually force GMs to stop handing out NTC/NMCs like candy. None of this was possible without those clauses - moving forward if I'm a GM I'm paying the extra AAV, or moving a guy before the clause kicks in.

Part of me is glad to see players exercise the rights they bargained for. Trade protection is something they fought for in the CBA, and it's their right to use those rights when their teams are ready to move on.

On the other hand, I think this is terrible for the sport. When you're in a world where freaking Michael McCarron gets a full NMC and a 15-team NTC, something is very wrong. What we're seeing is players refusing to go to mid-market teams, and demand to go to / stay on contenders. I understand that desire, but it's going to lead to situations where Vegas and Florida stay super-teams forever, and are consistently able to re-tool with premium players on the (relative) cheap because they're the only teams anyone wants to go to. From a league perspective, the other ~27 teams cannot just simply become feeder systems for those super teams. It's going to be terrible for business.

McCarron and Fredrick are simply inexcusable. 4th line plugs getting NMCs - what are we even doing here.

I would bet more teams will start modifying earlier - like, we will give you a NMC until the final two years of the contract, then you get a modified 10 team NTC list. That way if a player wants out they can't pick 3-4 teams.

It will work itself out moving forward, I'm not worried about mid-market teams in the long run, hell Minny is pretty mid-market and everyone wants to go there right now over huge markets like New York, LA, and Chicago, two of those teams being O6ers

Holy Smokes. That's a power move, but I'm not sure by which team

It’s a really good deal for Florida. The only thing keeping this from being a great deal for Florida is if the 2029 first is also a top 10 pick.

Must be nice going to 3 cups in a row, winning 2, tanking 1 year for a top 10 pick, trading a player who is probably the 9th or 10th best forward on your team for a first round pick, then using those 1st’s plus one more 3 years from now to unite the Tkachuk brothers.

Armstrong has made this statement often not verbatim, “if you start making decisions like fans you become one”.

I give Army his due for all that he's accomplished. The offer sheets were just crazy good. Saying that, I've been right a lot of times when he zigged and I thought he should have zagged. I've never been a GM, but from an outsider's perspective, that job seems to hinge a lot on the people around you. If your pro and amateur scouts are just okay, that's going to have a big effect on your thought process and overall job.

The truly great GM's really need to have their hand on the pulse in a lot of different areas.

That's a lot of words to get to the crux of my point. The overall point is, Army and the Blues should have zigged at the time of the Buchnevich deal. They never had to do a scorched earth rebuild. They just needed to make the decision to turn the page on the mindset of being a playoff team.

Faulk and Schenn returning 1st round picks are still amazing to me. I have to give Army some credit for it but that screams more dumbness on the other GM's part, ie: not having well enough informed scouts.

Florida just got a lot better.

Thank you Lord that we weren’t on Brady’s list for that ridiculous return he got. I’m fully on board with picks/prospects are overrated and should be used as currency to help the big club but Brady is most definitely NOT a player you pay that kind of price for. He’s so overrated.
Please. He’s going to tear it up in Florida and the return wasn’t that ridiculous for a team trying to keep winning Cups.
