Around the NHL 2024 25

The Jets just need to score first. That’s the key to beating teams like that. They are way too good at locking things down if they get ahead. The Jets are the same to be honest. Just look at the Blues in the 3rd period of these last two games.
Exactly. I would also say that the Blues are probably the closest thing to the Kings we will see in the playoffs. You can see their strategy - emptying the tank in the first period to try and get the lead so they can sit back and lock shit down. I guess the difference is they have guys like Fowler and Tucker who are pretty god awful (and probably why they dressed 7 d last night).

The good news is the Jets are fantastic at locking things down, but we also have a pretty prolific scoring ability in the third, so that's the prime counter. The Kings however are much better through the neutral zone, which is where I think we get into trouble.

Style-wise I feel the LAK defensive structure reminds me so much of the Jets. Very frustrating to play against. However they lack the scoring punch. On the other hand, it is the Canes speed, skill, and attacking offensive system that most resembles the Jets. I absolutely love watching the Canes, especially when they are firing on all cylinders

That said you could arguably have such contrasting styles in the que for the Jets with the WCF and LAK, and SCF with the Canes. That would exciting by hockey.

Kempe is an absolutely solid contributor to LA's offence. Durable, shifty and dangerous.

Their cognitive dysfunction reflects that of a sundry antisocial luddite soaking in the finest of echo chambers, trending to that of a classic and deeply disturbed grass-combing navel gazer.   I will admit that Skinner is a sub-par goalie in the regular season and nothing but a liability in the playoffs - so their unfettered rage is partially based in logic.

This is accurate, poetic, hilarious and also accurate!

Did I mention the description’s accuracy? 😂

Oilers fans are demanding Skinner's and Knoblauch's heads on piks. I wonder if Pickard starts game 2?
I don't know how they haven't done something about goaltending. Just pissing away prime years of McDavid and Drai.

Knoblauch's challenge of that puck over the glass penalty was a big gamble that he got away with since LA didn't score on the 5v3 (although they had a few great chances).

Then to run McD, Perry and Drai out for 6 of the last 7 minutes...brilliant. I know the only answer any Edmonton coach ever has to a problem is "Moar McDAVID!" but good lord...

I mean, what's sending in Calvin Pickard gonna do? He hasn't looked like he might be a reliable NHL goaltender in almost a decade.

How did they let themselves walk into the playoffs with this goaltender duo?

They probably figured that they got to game 7 of the finals last year w/ Skinner and he would be "good enough"

I think Pickard had OK numbers (or at least more wins) down the stretch than Skinner did so that's fueling the delusion. Not an ideal situation, anyways

It's wild. Selfishly, this inane roster construction means that I'm going to have an internet argument with some f*** wit in 9 months who claims that McDavid isn't great because he hasn't won the Stanley Cup, which will probably result in a bad night's sleep.

I mean, the summary of last night's game could be a freaking The Onion by-line. "McDavid puts up 4 points including the game tying goal with less than a minute to play, and Bouchard adds 3 assists, as the Oilers drops Game 1 in regulation time."

That was definitely a strong narrative for awhile when Vegas won the cup in 2023 and Oilers made it to the finals last year, that you can get by with platoon goaltending that's merely average or "good enough" if you have the offense or team defence and the days of the #1 goalie were over etc etc. I say those were exceptions and that's false. You almost always need strong goaltending to win a cup.

Robert Thomas and Cale Makar have to go testify but it may be via video.

As I recall, the woman at the core of the case reported that there were 8 players present during her ordeal; 5 have been charged. Might these three witnesses (Batherson, Thomas, Makar) be the other 3 players allegedly at the scene?
