Around the NHL 2024 25

I'm a firm believer in the draft lottery being weighted towards the 17th place team descending. Rewarding teams that clear house and tank for the bottom doesn't improve the league and create parity.
52, 59 and 66 points for the worst teams in the league is a hell of a gap from the top 3 teams.
There's the Gold Plan - where as teams are eliminated from the playoffs, any points they get after that counts towards their draft ranking. So bad teams get eliminated earlier and have more chances to bank points.

So this year the Sharks were eliminated on March 16 and had 45 points. They now have 52. So 7 points. Chicago was eliminated on the 20th and have 10 points since, etc.

Before tonight's games:

SJS: 7 points
CHI: 10 points
NSH: 4 points
SEA: 8 points
ANA: 4 points
BOS: 4 points
PHI: 5 points
PIT: 4 points
BUF: 1 point
VAN: 5 points
UTA: 5 points
NYI: 2 points
NYR: 2 points
DET: 2 points

Chicago gets first pick, SEA 2nd, SJS 3rd, etc...

Being drafted by the Blackhawks is a death sentence. The combination of the Beach scandal and the death of Rocky Wirtz sent the franchise in free fall. I'm even wondering if Bedard bothers to sign there. He does not look motivated at all.

Blues winning
Calgary losing
Wild tied

If the Blues and Flames finish like that, and you want to play the Wild in the playoffs, then we need the Wild to lose in regulation.

I'd rather play the wild just cause it would be good for the rivalry. Not concerned about beating either of them

I'd rather avoid the Wild, but only cause they have more Rats and I'd be worried about flying dropkicks or whatever stupid shit Shartman and Foligno practice on each other in the locker room. Jets do their business they beat either of em.

I am not used to watching other teams fight it out in the final games to try and gain a playoff birth... and to find out who our opponent will be...

Looks like we may get the Wild. Short travel for the first round would be a plus.

edit: spoke 20 seconds too soon.

A side note in the Minn game.... MAF is the last goalie in the NHL that has a tie game on his record. No other goalie currently in the NHL has ever recorded a tie.
A testament to his longevity.

I remember the Jets had something like 10 or 11 ties in a row in the 90-91 season? A real sad streak. I need to go fact check to come firm the numbers
