I want to win the Cup first and foremost but if anyone thinks leading the entire NHL after 82 games and 6 months of hockey isn't a incredible accomplishment you aren't looking at it fairly. I always sorta looked at it as no big deal before because i never thought a team from Winnipeg would ever do this.
Winning the Presidents Cup would be the greatest single achievement that any incarnation of the Jets NHL run has ever done. I said in the past I probably will never see the Jets win the Cup in whatever time I have left just too many factors that go against us and I'm okay with that. Just having a competitive professional team to get me through the winter is good enough for me. Plus I'd probably drop dead if they ever did manage to win the SC

I went back to the lockout and there were no president's trophy winners that won the cup. Are you happy now or would you like me to go further back?
So that has knocked it down to 5%. If you make the playoffs you have a six and a quarter percent chance of winning the cup.
There have been 8 Stanley Cup and President’s Cup winners in the same season in the 38 seasons since the President’s cup was introduced in 1986. So it isn’t a curse or a benefit. About a 1 in 5 historically, and considering there are usually about a 1/2 dozen serious contenders it is what should be expected.

It never fails to amaze me how much the media doesnt care for Winnipeg or its team. Best Canadian team we have and I saw recently that either Sportsnet or TSN had cup favorite odds and it was Edmonton, followed by 4 or 5 Amercian teams. This team is on a 10 game heater and neither Sportsnet or TSN online has the team with multiple articles profiling the team. It is kind of unreal. I want to be clear, I am not mad about it. It just fascinates me, and that underdog status can be helpful. Paul Maurice was bang on that if the Jets win the Cup it is straight up good for the sport. Because this is an organization that knows how to take care of its employees and players. It is very deserving for the org and the city.

Anyways...end rant:laugh:

If Toronto was 1st in the NHL and on a 10 game winning streak there would be so many articles about them they would be doing a story on Matthews favorite crayon color he uses.

Not surprising really. Edmonton went to the finals last season and almost won it, so with basically the same team, and in the same placing ( currently 2nd in the Pacific just like last season ), you should expect them to be a playoff favorite.

Winnipeg on the other hand is in the "we won't believe it until we see it" status. And I don't blame people for that either after watching the Jets totally imploding last playoffs. And again, we are pretty much the same team, so until it's shown to be different, it won't be.

Also, I don't have an issue with everyone underestimating the Jets.

Yeah but we're only #2 in goals for. Hashtag fraud alert.

The problem of the validity of the President's trophy lies in the fact that it's not a level playing field, the schedules aren't balanced. A true contender in weak division has a better chance of winning it.

You aren't wrong. But some teams get an easier path to the Cup than others too.
And Western teams have a lot more travel to deal with
And Jets play in a tough division

Are there really any level playing fields in anything?

It is odd. The focus on TML first and then Habs is understandable. It is just numbers and business. But no way Jets should play 2nd fiddle to any other Canadian team. And with Jets performing like they have they should be getting a lot of positive press - after they have raved about Leafs.

Which is an interesting point, but not really proof of anything due to sample size. Even 38 is a small sample. Never mind less than 20.
It may be a small sample size but it is 100% of the samples that we have to work with. But I am finished on this topic. It would be great if they finished first overall but like I have said a million times it is better that they go into the playoffs healthy and playing the right way than it is doing any trophy besides the cup.

Man Washington loses, Dallas, Minnesota and Colorado all lose as well, guess we are hoging all the wins . The Jets are pigs and i love it.
Galen Weston will have no choice but to give us the Presidents Choice cup based on the points we earned :snide:
