Around the NHL 2024/25

To be a great NHL player you have to put in the work, that's not in Laine's off season schedule.
When he was here, I recall one of the Laine Finnatics saying he was training, but it was all off ice with some old school Finnish fitness guru who also trained Barkov or Rantanen or something, and there was a big argument about whether he needed to do more on-ice training.

I don't think he was just playing Fortnite all summer...he wasn't showing up to camp out of shape, was he?

Yeah it was all off ice core strength training as I recall. Tire flipping, log rolling, rope pulling, etc.

Definitely not anything that would help with his skating or quickness.

I don’t think he put in the work in the off season. Not saying he put in zero work but I do recall @Whileee would take in the fitness tests (I think it was Whileee) to start training camp and Laine really struggled comparatively in the fitness tests as I recall.

Also when all those guys like Lowry, Scheifele, Morrissey went off for the summer when they were really young they all seemed to have that summer where they transformed their body to that NHL look (lean muscle mass but ripped). Laine never had that summer where he took that step physically, he always had that kind of smooth non muscular look.

Barkov really grew his game especially the skating aspect during his younger off seasons. Rantanen was way more of a physical specimen at a young age. Laine did not show much if any improvement from off season to off season that I recall at least.

Watching this Utah - Washington overtime really reminds me how aggressive the Jets are in overtime
Off topic(ish).. but when was the last time the Jets were in a shootout?

I know there hasn't been one this year, and for some reason I'm thinking that there wasn't one last year, either. My memory could be playing tricks on me though

Edit: Oct 28, 2023... SO loss to MTL

Only one of last season

Not for the Habs sake, but I would much rather see Patrick succeeding. Kind of sad.
Agree, this is quite sad. A player with so much talent, absolutely going into the tank.. I'm not going to dump shyte while he's down.

He looks cooked - the fans and media in MTL will kill this poor bastard.

I wonder if he stays up until 3 in the morning playing video games and then has no energy to play the hockey game the day after.
What did he say 16 hours was the longest consecutive video game session he had during the hockey season.

Maybe he will be inspired like Buff to just walk away from the game.

He seemed pretty impressed by Buff's move in his interview on Spittin Chicklets.
