I’m amazed watching teams make good defensive plays and immediately clearing the zone on a dime. Often turning it into a rush the other way. I didn’t know teams could do that so often in the same game.
The defense from both teams was amazing tonight. I hope our young players watched this game carefully - there was much there they could learn.

A fantastic game - could have been a SCF Game 7!

Well, the league now has a huge problem. They can’t have this tournament (expanded) every year. And they really can’t have another “all star” game. So, now what for a mid season break?

Both Canada/US games were outstanding. Just terrific to watch. I don’t know how I’m gonna go back to watching the Cronin shit shows. I may have to start watching games/teams fighting for playoff positions.

Yea I was thinking about this too. Can't do it every year. It would also probably lose some excitement doing it every year. I thought every two years but then it overlaps with the Olympics. Just do it every four years and put it at the midway point of each Olympic break. So you get a best on best every two years. One all NHL players, one everybody (true best on best at the Olympics).

Continue to do the All Star game in between. No one will care about it but it will generate money.

As far as the game goes. What an amazing game. Unfortunate the US had a lot of missing players. The injuries with M. Ktachuk, Q. Hughes and McAvoy. Starting Kreider and playing him half the game. As someone else said J. Hughes was bad, Boldy was too.

Yet they still dominated a lot of the game. B. Tkachuk is an absolute beast. Slavin shutting down everything was also a beast. Can't wait for the Olympics.

What a game. Slavin was incredible.

You hate to put this on Matthews since he played way better than Hughes and some of the other forwards, but he had the game on his stick and couldn't put it away. And then he left the best player in the world wide open in the slot.

I had extremely low hopes for this tournament, and didn't even watch the first few games. However, once I saw how seriously the players were taking it, it became much more exciting. Last nights game was outstanding. Unfortunately, we couldn't pull it off. However, I Love Canada and the people ( I spend a lot of time over the border), so I'm not that disappointed. (USA is still, and always will be my #1). Looking forward to the Olympics next year.

P.S. Can you imagine having a Ktachuk on our team? I hate it when we play either of them, but man they're both so fricken good, and play exciting, old school/hard nosed hockey.

Agree about Slavin. Also McAvoy was terrific until he got hurt.

Yeah, I wondered when he missed that shot that could have won it how it was going to go over in Toronto. He wasn't THE reason the US lost, but he didn't prove he was the guy who could drag his team to victory when it mattered.

On the other hand, Marner finally showed up in a game that matters, so maybe it balances out if you're a Leafs fan?

Maybe a rotation of events? Have a "relegation" game every 4 years where the last place 4 nations team plays the #5 "ranked" team for the final spot? Starting from next year, it could be something like:
Olympics
"4th Nation" playoff
4 Nations
All Star Game

Olympics and 4 Nations would be bigger breaks, the other two could be done with a much shorter break.
