Around the NHL - 2024-25 season.

I hate the Hawks and what transpired there, but people love to conveniently "forget" that Bowman actually did bring the situation to the attention of his superior and it was his superior that proceeded to help bury it. Obviously when nothing was happening, Bowman should have done more, but of everyone involved, he was the only one that actually did the right thing at any point in time.

This, I actually didn't know.

Markstrom is going to miss time (lucky if it's not the rest of the year).
Sucks for Jersey, helps Calgary out. That could end up being a top 20 pick this year now, because they are not the same team without Markstrom.

If it's very serious (and it looked that way) I wonder if the Devils would need/want someone like Dan Vladar?

I don’t think Vladar is better than Allen so I’m not sure what that does for them. Either they call up Daws or go out and try to get someone better than Allen imo

I think it was Friedman but it could have been another insider I’m not sure, that said this week that Vladar doesn’t have any more value than a 5th or a 6th. At that point I think you just keep him so that Cooley can stay in the AHL since the Wranglers are doing so well

With Allen they are 6-8, Markstrom they're 19-7. This is great news for the Flames, they're still pretty high in the standings so I HIGHLY doubt they drop into the bottom 10 in which case we don't get the pick, but if Markstrom is out long term, that pick could get into the teens, which would be massive for when our pick is in the teens and goes to Montreal. Currently it's at 25th overall, Florida's is at 23th overall, Flames is at 15th overall.

No time better than go on a losing streak Flames, get back into the bottom 10!

...that would also mean the Canucks (or Blues) have to win games, so...playoffs here we go!!

The East is a joke yet again this year. It would be unlikely that the Devils fall too far in the standings with Markstrom out

Holly moly what a trade by Avs!

What is really intriguing to see is how bad the market is...

So Chicago got a 3rd for Taylor Hall plus they accepted 50% of Rantanen's salary???

A third???

🙊

Chicago In: A third round pick (their own that was held by Carolina), and 4.65 million salary
Chicago Out: Taylor Hall, and prospect Nils Juntorp (unsigned 6th round pick playing in Sweden)

So it's worse, they also gave up a prospect

Makes sense only if they saw Hall as a negative asset and wanted to get rid of him.

A few things...
  1. Hall has little to know trade value.
  2. They ate less than 3m in actual salary as Rantanen only makes 6m this season and they have a metric f*** ton of cap space.,, in fact Hall actually has more money owing on his contract than Rantanen does.
  3. Juntorp is a 21 year old prospect who hasn't even been able to stick in Sweden's 2nd tier league... I'd be absolutely shocked if he is ever signed.
A high 3rd (top 2 pick in the round) to eat 3m in Salary to dump Hall and save some money (a small amount, less than 100k probably) is very good for Chicago

Saad on waivers. If there’s one thing the flames love it’s a big ole left shot left wing

Without knowing how cooked he is though seems like a decent candidate for a pump and dump at next years deadline, that’s if the team thinks they can put him in a position to succeed

Kuzmenko and Mantha will be gone this off season and we have a billion dollars in cap space. Obviously if he’s 100% cooked forget it but I haven’t watched a lot of St. Louis this year

He’s still only 32 years old, and only one season removed from his second-highest career goal total (26). It’s crazy how much can change in a year. I don’t see him getting past SJ or CHI on the waiver wire though.

I definitely wouldn't take him on waivers, but I'd offer a trade for him.

to STL:
- Andrei Kuzmenko [UFA '25 - 5.5m AAV]
- 7th in '25
to CGY:
- Brandon Saad [UFA '26, 4.5m AAV, 2026 salary of 3.65m]
- Tomas Mrsic [Unsigned Prospect, 4th Rounder in 2024] - I elected a recently drafted center prospect that is having a solid season rather than a pick since they have traded their next three 2nd rounders and their 3rd and 4th this season

I don't think anyone takes him. Not with another year on his contract.
