Seeing Vinnie Hinostroza on PP1 for Minnesota...I don't even know the words to describe that.

But with a chance to tie the game on a breakaway halfway through the third period, Pettersson shot high. He failed to register a shot on goal, missing the net twice while having a pair of shots blocked. In the six Canuck games since the Miller trade, Pettersson has managed to direct just four pucks on target.
“We've talked about he has to move his feet, and can't double clutch (with the puck),” Canucks coach Rick Tocchet told Sportsnet Sunday night after his main press scrum had ended. “I think he's waiting for something. I don't know if it's a lack of confidence in his shot, but as soon as he has room, he's got to take it and . . . just got to blast it. I'd rather him just rip a puck right now. He's not moving his feet. I thought today, some shifts he was moving his feet and it looked like we had some glimpses. But six-on-five there at the end, it's the same thing, waiting. If he just takes three or four strides . . . I don't know if it's a mental block right now, all year, but he's got to move his feet.”
When we asked Pettersson whether confidence is a factor when struggling to score, the alternate captain said: “It's more annoying dealing with the media.”
Well, there’s only seven years left on that contract.
a change of scenery may do him good.![]()
Things go from bad to worse for Canucks' Elias Pettersson
First he wasn’t skating. Now he’s not shooting. The hope that Elias Pettersson, liberated from season-long drama by the trade of J.T. Miller on Jan. 31, might be re-energized and re-launch his difficult season has dissipated in February.www.sportsnet.ca

The tough part is that he did not look good with Sweden at the 4 Nations, either.a change of scenery may do him good.
yeah, that 11M is really looking sour. The tough part is that he did not look good with Sweden at the 4 Nations, either.
Whether he stays or moves, there is a boatload of work he needs to do in order to get back to being worth $11M per year and a core top line C.

Bruins Signing Elias Lindholm Proving to Be a Costly Mistake - The Hockey Writers Latest News, Analysis & More
The Boston Bruins made a costly gamble when they signed Elias Lindholm to a long contract this offseason; one that seems unlikely to pay off.thehockeywriters.com

That will be really interesting calculus for Vancouver. If they keep him through the TDL and he continues to struggle the remainder of the season, I wonder what the trade offers are like heading into the draft.I still want to know about the knee.
And the risk associated with the contract continues to loom - is someone willing to fork over that money to take on that risk? I know NHL GMs can make or break their teams on their gambles but that's a lot of money to gamble on for any team.
It also means if the Canucks do investigate moving him, from a hockey trade perspective, his value is going to be even lower based on post-injury performance and his pending cost.
That's the kicker best case scenario you're getting an 11m player for 11 and worst you're getting a 7 for 11.yeah, that 11M is really looking sour.
Should have been more. That was a purely predatory hit. Nothing remotely clean about it.Zegras suspended 3 games (for hit on Rasmussen-Det), will miss Sabres game tomorrow, fyi
This situation screams “change of scenery.”![]()

Maybe. This situation screams “change of scenery.”
Also, Pettersson should start seeing a cognitive performance coach if he is t already.
Maybe. But that's not how a lot of people work. The stats don't precede the problem or the solution. The stats are an outcome of a problem or a solution.Maybe.

His Edge stats are considerably worse in 2024-25 than the prior three seasons.
@Chainshot asking about his health is a valid concern. Maybe it is that he is choosing not to make the same effort as he has in the past. But, there is a chance that he physically can't put out that kind of effort due to the lingering knee injury.

Another red flag for me is that he was a complete no show for Team Sweden at the 4 Nations.
If all he needed was a change of scenery, then I would have expected him to play like a man possessed for Sweden. But, he seemed pretty checked out by a lot of accounts. I mean, look at that FaceOff%.
If you can't motivate yourself to be competitive at the dot when wearing the Tre Kronor...
I was pointing out that we don't know if the problem is mental, physical, or some combination of both.Maybe. But that's not how a lot of people work. The stats don't precede the problem or the solution. The stats are an outcome of a problem or a solution.
You might be right, and it might be an effort issue. However, most people don't wake up and decide to be half-a$$ed. There's usually a reason. Something caused Pettersson to check out. His GM doesn't speak glowingly about him, so maybe it is effort. But if there was damage done during the JT Miller time, it doesn't just go away.
Just flying to Montreal and Boston and playing for Team Sweden may not be enough if he's got confidence issues, etc that came from being in the locker room with Miller and those that sided with Miller.
None of us know him personally, so we won't know until he gets traded and the story comes out. If I were Adams, I'd use some contacts to discreetly find out what's really going on. If Pettersson is just a guy who got his money and got lazy, so be it. Avoid him. But if he's got issues that are stemming from locker room conflict, I'd think about a trade.
As an aside, I've worked with a lot of Swedes through my time in a NATO position. They are typically quiet and very professional. They also tend to be grinders who get the job done and don't complain. That's why Brian Burke said he wanted farm kids first and then Swedes.
For a Swede, if there is any criticism given, it's given in private and not done in an embarrassing way. I'm giving Pettersson a lot of slack here because what we know about Miller and what the GM has said in the media would shut down a lot of Swedes I've worked with, who are really bad-a$$ combat types.
If it's physical, then sure, change of scenery makes no sense and won't yield results.I was pointing out that we don't know if the problem is mental, physical, or some combination of both.
We know he had lingering knee tendonitis last year that was affecting him into this offseason.
We also know about the ongoing issues with JT Miller.
But, we also know that the trade of Miller and the change of scenery last week in playing for Team Sweden did not yield short term improvements.
So, that points to issues that perhaps a change of scenery may not mean immediate improvement. If it is a physical issue that is a sizable factor, then a trade is highly unlikely to help.
Buffalo hasn't exactly shown a proficiency to allow players to rebuild broken confidence...If it's physical, then sure, change of scenery makes no sense and won't yield results.
If he's got a confidence issue (to put something tangible into the term medical), then it's going to take time to fix and likely isn't going to happen in Vancouver given the current situation. It'd likely take a trade to somewhere where he can rebuild himself mentally, which will also take time.
