Saw that Duhatschek was retiring. Back in the more simple days of 2005 when the NHL was coming out of the lockout, Duhatschek wrote an article which included a snippet about Paul Kariya still remaining Colorado property.

That was incorrect, so I wrote up a civil email to Duhatschek figuring he wouldn't respond. But to my surprise he did, although he remained dug in that his "sources" told him that the Avs had Kariya's rights. I had pointed out that Kariya had already been a UFA in the summer of 2004 and Colorado couldn't give him a QO to retain his rights. Kariya signed with Nashville once free agency opened.

So while he was wrong, I did appreciate that Duhatschek took a minute to respond to a random email. [/coolstorybro]

Scott Burnside being inducted into the HHOF is a joke
I forgot all about this guy until today.

I actually saw something pop up somewhere about him, which almost read like a possible memoriam. I was like ''Wait, did he die?''. And then I saw it was because he was inducted into the HHOF.

I haven't really heard or seen this guy's name more than just in passing in at least a decade or more.

He used to regularly put out all kinds of Lou hit pieces. I think one time he said something about how Lou should be buried under the ice that the poor team he built plays on.

That was during the MacLean season. He was irate that we fired MacLean. He seemed to have a Lou-bias at that point. He should have been more irate that MacLean was even hired in the first place if he wanted to put Lou on blast lol.

There really isn't anyone close. He's their whole team. I suspect he'd get $13m if he hits UFA.
I don't think that would be the case unless he's exclusively just seeking money. The only clubs that could offer that would be bottom feeders or extremely young teams with no real chance.

Nobody told me there'd be days like these...

My understanding is that when Blackwood gets inducted into the inconsistent goalie hall of fame he wants you to give the eulogy

Totally, he hated the late aughts Devils teams and to be fair to him they did always collapse in the first round but he an absolute hate boner for Lou

Every year was the year the team would collapse and miss the playoffs….and then they would win the division.

Interesting article about Mogilny's continued HHOF snub. Mostly the same anecdotes but I hadn't read the stories about teammates/coaches being frustrated with his lack of desire to do rehab work for his arthritic hip.

By that late stage of Mogilny’s career, his infamous aversion to injury rehabilitation was accepted as part of the package. Sundin wrote that after multiple surgeries on Mogilny’s arthritic left hip, Sundin urged him to work out with strength coach Matt Nichol for just 10 minutes a day to prolong his linemate’s career for 10 more years.

“Why the f— would I want to do that?” Sundin recalled Mogilny’s reply.

“He was arguably the most talented guy any of us had ever played with,” Sundin wrote, “but he was not interested in training off-ice with us.”

It would be interesting to hear Mogilny's side of the story and whether he had been burnt out at an early age with hockey consuming everything. It's not in the article but one Mogilny story I always enjoyed was Mike Keenan singling out Mogilny during an intermission in Vancouver. I think it was Adrian Aucoin who relayed how Mogilny calmly responded with something like "In Russia they threatened my family. Do you think you scare me?" which left Keenan speechless.

I'm pretty sure Marchessault is at least fairly washed, it's just a question of how much.

Stamkos is also approaching it.

Perhaps a bad example as Stamkos is only 34 and not 39, but I get serious 2000 Messier vibes from Stamkos. An old legend who is falling off. I don't for a second believe he's going to age as well as Crosby, Malkin or Ovechkin have.

Actually, maybe 35 year old Gretzky, as that's closer in age to Stamkos and I always thought Stamkos and Gretzky kind of looked alike.

I actually get major 1997-2004 Rangers vibes with Nashville. That UFA hat trick was like something the Rangers were doing in the late 90s and early 00s, only to never even make the playoffs once during those years.
