welp, looks like Demko is ded.

5 years for Lankinen at that price? It must have been the Daccord deal that started this domino effect. I wouldn’t say Korpisalo, as that was a UFA signing on July 1st. Same with Jack Campbell the year before that. And maybe even the Husso contract from that same summer.

Demko can’t be relied on anymore. He’s approaching DiPietro levels of getting injured any way he can.

I didn’t realize Demko only had a year left on his deal.

Maybe now the Canucks will stop handing him games like they were after he finally debuted this year. And it was costing them. But it sounds like he’ll be out for a while now. The remainder of the year would surprise no one.

That said, if he is able to pull himself together he could be a good signing on a cheaper deal for someone after this one ends. But he’ll probably get the same deal Lankinen just got, it just (probably) won’t be from the Canucks.

The domino effect is Vancouver panicked and overpaid him and the few decent UFA goalies still on the market must be thrilled.

The AFP Analytics midseason estimate for Lankinen was 2 years/3.282m.

This is the brutal as usual UFA goalie market now:

Capwages lists the AFP estimates for all the UFAs with a pulse.

1) The top 3 guys here should beat these estimates, they’ll definitely get more term.

2) I was hoping we could resign Allen but if he keeps up his numbers there’s a good chance he’ll try to cash in on the UFA market.

There’s no estimate for Kaapo Kahkonen, the guy certain posters were outraged we passed on as one of our 24-25 starters.

Kahkonen is the AHL, he was unable to beat out Justus Annunen and Scott Wedgewood for starts after Colorado picked him off of waivers.

I don’t see it happening, it would be absolutely wild if it did.

I can’t imagine what it would be like if we traded for Rantanen and flipped him for futures ~10 games later lol.
What a loser move that would be. Even if you don’t know if you can resign him, you have to go for it at this stage with that group.

Not a fan of this idea at all.
If you will visit Nashville you will see yellow stadium. If you will visit Devils its full of red. Columbus? Navy blue. Etc.

When they will turn it to the home white - every stadium will be going white. Of course some people will wear non white jersey but overall proportion will be changed.

This has been my biggest complaint about us adding the jersey jerseys and those burger king jerseys. Go look back at the 2012 playoffs and it's a sea of red because we had less jerseys. Now we have a mix mash of all sorts of jersey colors in the crowd and I hate it.

well i did my part.

zero games watched, zero highlights, zero replays.... i couldnt even tell you the score of any of the games...

the only thing i know is canada won and only because my co-workers were talking about it earlier today

shit, can we get back to real hockey now gary?

Congratulations, so proud of you.

This was my thought going into it, but goddamn did the tournament overdeliver immensely.

From goalies with 55+ games in the last 3 seasons (its about 50-60 goalies) Lankinen is in top-16 with his SV%.

Its a good deal.

Shocked that Vancouver signed Lankinen for that. On a main board thread a few weeks ago about Lankinen, I posted the current goalies signed for 2025-26 and there didn't seem to be many teams looking for a starter. We'll see if this ages better than Pittsburgh's deal with Tristan Jarry.

We'll see if there's a team that'll offer Allen term. I could understand if he was looking for a little security with young kids. I'd expect the Sharks to bring in a 1B type goalie to split the load with Askarov. Although if I were Mike Grier, I'd be targeting somebody like Ilya Samsonov before Allen.

I’ve been thinking about Tikkanen all day, ever since it was thrown out there that he could be traded after 10 games.
Yeah he didn't last long. I remember he came to us with a bum knee, I think. Even the Canucks questioned his health. I remember Lou thought he could replace Conn Smythe Trophy winner, Claude Lemieux (a.k.a "The Grate One.")

I played NHL 96 for years, and you couldn't update rosters so I played more games with Devils great Phil Housley than he ever played with us.
Also, Gretzky was on St. Louis. It was a weird time to freeze rosters.

Lemieux would get injured a lot and his lineup replacement was Richard Park, which made playing with the Pens superteam a lot less fun all the sudden.

Rantanen with Jack and Bratt... or even on a line with Nico...

It would make us contenders.

Absolutely but would have to see him come here as a free agent. Would be insane of Carolina to trade him in the division, especially to us. I'd also be afraid of trading for him without a contract extension in place beforehand too.
