Around the NHL 2024-25 regular season Part II

As brought up in the NHL Talk forum, the league will talk to anyone who shows interest. That doesn't mean that they're a frontrunner city for another team. Omaha got a meeting and their metro is slightly bigger than New Orleans's without a pro sports team. Ditto Cincinnati, which is in the Blue Jackets's turf.

I predict Atlanta, Houston, Phoenix, and either Quebec City or a different American city depending on whether the NHL has an appetite to go up north or not. What that fourth city will be is anyone's guess.

There is no universe where New Orleans can support an NHL team. There is probably no universe where New Orleans can support an AHL team. They had mixed success with an ECHL team and I don't see more interest now than there was then. I'm still one of about 10 hockey fans in the area.

Its sad. I would like to see New Orleans Bebop against St Louis Blues.

The Brass got decent fan support in the ECHL, but the Hornets/Pelicans demanded that they pay for their own maintenance in keeping the arena able to support hockey, and the never-corrupt-at-all Louisiana state government agreed. It's kind of similar to how the Aeros got chased out of Houston, although they were much better supported in the AHL than the Brass in the ECHL.

I'm not disagreeing, but there is context.

I'm not sure how legit expansion is at this point, but assuming they go by the most recent expansion draft rules, bringing 4 new teams into the mix would seriously deplete current teams rosters. To the point where they probably couldn't even go by those rules. But they can't go back, especially in the Atlanta or Az markets to where the team sucks for the first 5+ years of it's existence. That's a good way to kill a team before it even gets going.

Would the Phoenix team play in the B-ball arena?

I'm impressed you are so up on the Brass. I was at a good number of those games. Some folks came out but it was a novelty. The only chance a minor league team would work is if Ms. Benson owned it and folded it into the Pels and Saints umbrella. I doubt she's interested at her age.

i would absolutely love this to come back it just makes too much sense. i'm even fine with a combo style like they did in 93 i think with half one way the other half another way.

i said it before a perfect compromise would be at minimum home whites for playoffs. makes sense when teams then do a white out.

i dont know if it would work there or not but that aside i much rather them get a shot then atlanta 3.0 or phoenix 2.0

can def see them expanding 4 more teams. it would give them the green light to expand the playoffs and get their play in wildcard style game/series. i dont think any of this happens until bettman retires though just probably expand 2 more teams.

I think you could write the rule that away teams wear colors and home teams must wear contrasting colors to play.

If the primary colors do not contrast then then home team must wear white.

So then away team still just travels with 1 uniform but the home team can do a lot of different combos whenever it won’t cause confusion.

If you will visit Nashville you will see yellow stadium. If you will visit Devils its full of red. Columbus? Navy blue. Etc.

When they will turn it to the home white - every stadium will be going white. Of course some people will wear non white jersey but overall proportion will be changed.

Lou hasn’t lost his touch with his AHL team, including changing the teams name to the Islanders after they’ve been the Sound Tigers for 20 years.

i always assumed that this was all preplanned like when the schedule was released everyone gets in touch and say what they are wearing. if you want to wear a dark color at home and us bring our whites for a road game? your team has to pay for the travel costs

Yeah but the vast majority of hockey games I attend are home games, theoretically

I much prefer seeing white and a different color every night, rather than white and red every single time. Almost every team has a better color sweater, and I’d like to get to see them in person as a fan.

5 years for Lankinen at that price? It must have been the Daccord deal that started this domino effect. I wouldn’t say Korpisalo, as that was a UFA signing on July 1st. Same with Jack Campbell the year before that. And maybe even the Husso contract from that same summer.

Demko can’t be relied on anymore. He’s approaching DiPietro levels of getting injured any way he can.

I didn’t realize Demko only had a year left on his deal.

Maybe now the Canucks will stop handing him games like they were after he finally debuted this year. And it was costing them. But it sounds like he’ll be out for a while now. The remainder of the year would surprise no one.

That said, if he is able to pull himself together he could be a good signing on a cheaper deal for someone after this one ends. But he’ll probably get the same deal Lankinen just got, it just (probably) won’t be from the Canucks.
