Around the NHL 2024-25 regular season Part II

Technically they can only trade two seconds unless I suppose we play enough games where we clear the condition on Allen's trade (don't think we'll be able to do so before the deadline)

You can just add conditions (eg if pick transfers to MTL, we send our 2026 2nd to *insert team*). It happens all the time

all three of our 2nds plus whatever cap dump necessary (Haula?) for McCann + Gourde

If Granlund+Ceci (both rentals) can net a late 1st combined, McCann (under contract for 2 more years after this one) + Gourde could probably do better than three 2nds that'll be in the 50-64 range. I'd also be worried about Gourde since he'll be out injured for several more weeks.

Mccann is a 60-70 pt forward? Had no idea. That is tempting

McCann shot 19% during his 40 goal season which is a hard % to maintain. And then 23 of his 64 points last season were on the PP, so those numbers could take a hit here since he likely wouldn't be displacing anybody off of PP1. Not to say that's he's not worth looking into or anything.

One long term concern is that he's under contract for another two seasons so that'd be another body in front of Gritsyuk. I suppose you could try to pull a Billy Beane and get McCann and trade him again to recoup a chunk of assets that you gave up.

Just tell Montreal that they can have the NJ second instead of the NJ third they got in the Allen deal to send Evans over to NJ. Dowling goes down and MTL retains to make the cap work. That's about the best NJ can do it seems. After the break they are going to have to call up Nemec and likely Daws for at least a little while to cover for Siegenthaler and any lingering time for Markstrom. Those two will eat up most of NJ's available cap. I guess you can make a hard call and move Tatar if need be.

Palat Jack Bratt
Meier Evans Mercer
Cotter HIschier Noesen
Lazar Haula Bastian

You know they won't send down MacDermid so he sits until needed but stays on the cap.

Luke Kovacevic
Pesce Hamilton
Dillon Nemec

Allen
Daws

Eventually Markstom and Siegs return but until then the cap will remain tight.

if Seattle came to you and offered McCann + Gourde for Nemec + Haula (with whatever cap gymnastics needed for it to work), would you do it?
Zero interest in Gourde...until you mentioned Haula going the other way

Just Haula for Gourde is fine.

Both stink but Gourde is done at the end of the year.
