Around the NHL 2024-25 regular season Part II

Miller is a good player but he's the last thing NYR needs right now. Their core is checked out completely, if Miller hated a soft euro in Petterson then he's literally going to lose his mind with Zibanejad/Kreider/Trocheck/etc. You guys just have the woe is me attitude with anything NYR related because of the last decade. Watch the first in 2026 turn into Gavin McKenna somehow and then everyone here will say they knew the Miller trade was bad from day 1

“noted locker room cancer” because he had a public feud with one player on the canucks.

the rangers don’t care what they look like in 3 years. they’ll find a loser team to gobble up his contract and give them a mid round pick like they always do.

dramatically changes their math this year and next year. Philip Chytil is a 3rd line center with a bad back. He’s nothing.

lol god you doomers are so ridiculous. Miller has had several 'controller shuts off' goals against the last few years. He missed a month of the season for reasons that nobody has come out and said why. He represents a huge risk. He also does not fit on the Devils team at all.

He has 5 years left after this one. It's a huge ticket to take on and basically locks in their team for the near future. They also gave up a 1st round pick when they almost certainly should not be doing that. Drury is flailing.

I actually think this is exactly what Drury should be doing.

1) If he thinks he’s locked into this core, go for broke for 2 years before it’s totally gone, because they’ll be in the wilderness for a few years either way.

2) he really should be start those years right now so anything that prolongs the eventual agony I like

Jesus that’s even worse than I feared, the Canucks really wanted to get rid of his deal in the worst way

Anyone else remember when the Rangers signed the top center on the UFA market? He was 31 and just came off 2 top 10 in the NHL finishes in points. They signed him to a cheat code contract that front-loaded the deal massively. And then he played 3 unremarkable seasons in New York and his career was over 2 years later after spending 2 seasons on the third line.

Yea as a PP merchant lol. He's always sucked 5 on 5 even then. Miller is actually solid 5 on 5 at worst.

Comparing the two is asinine especially a season removed to 2 seasons removed.

Don't care, they have an albatross already at center in Zibanejad. Trocheck has looked awful compared to last year and they just added 8M malcontent to the roster that has never won anywhere. You just want NHL 25 video game type trades consistently and results which is why you're an angry poster

The Rangers had a choice to make, either really give in to a retool or go for it.

Obviously they’ve chosen go for it and made themselves better this year and possibly at not a ton of future cost.

A retool would be hard because their overpaid guys look so bad they’re almost immovable so the team is basically forced to go all in, even though they don’t look like a team that should go in.

So I think the Rangers made a good call by choosing a path, I just think both paths lead to places arguably worse than today when viewed over a few year period. A real no win situation for Drury.

I’m not really sure what Miller will be at 5 on 5. Probably lots of offense and really bad defense given the way the rest of those floaters play.

Its a good trade for Rangers. I dont think they could move some older stuff out from the roster, Miller will help to make them better. They need him now and they need to maximize an impact from the tail of Panarins deal. It was very cheap for them. And I dont think it will really hurt them short term but the most obvious thing was their defensive line.
Good we didnt trade Miller. I think he isnt the right guy for Keefe and he isnt the right guy for this locker room. He could help short term but his deal isnt good for our roster and we have longer window than Miller has.
Anyway this year and next year it will be little harder to play against them and our offensive line is thin. But I hope Fitz will find other options, even if without 100 points resume but younger or with shorter deal.

Honestly I think you guys are underselling how shitty this deal was for Vancouver and I didn’t even want him…but literally the only arguments you could make for it being a bad deal for the Rangers are if you think he’s a cancer (maybe he is, but the Rangers have had him before and still wanted him back) or if you think they somehow miss the playoffs both this year and next year and fork over a lottery pick, which isn’t likely. Can’t even make the bad contract argument the way you could have twelve hours ago.
