Around the NHL 2024-25 regular season Part II

I liked Utah Elk. Rocky Mountain Elk is Utahs state mammal. Utah Elk sounds good when you say it out loud. Can make a nice logo out of it and mascot etc. It's much better than any of the final 3 they have to me.
I actually like that name out of the choices given. I saw a mock up of the mammoth jersey and admit it does look good but I find it amazing they are painted into a corner because they didn’t think yeti would be a problem.

Agree with someone else coyotes would’ve been ideal they should’ve just given Phoenix a fresh start if they ever get one

Missed opportunity for NHL scheduling matinee weekend games while NFL goers silent waiting for Super Bowl weekend. No metro teams playing Friday or Saturday night.
Don’t get me started with the schedule! The nhl should right now be entering in the divisional/conference play months. Drive home the playoff push

MAF getting his 'flowers' in Montreal was pretty cool.
That was very cool with the handshake line. It’s a shame broduer didn’t get a proper send off your party his fault for that though.

Yeah, the Flyers freed up a bunch of money for next year with this deal, I feel like they should've gotten more out of it but sometimes you have to get the coach's whipping boys out of town.
Kuz is definitely not a Torts guy, but he does speak Russian and that will help him with coaching Michkov by his own admission, so it's a wash.

Only thing that can backfire is if Kuz is really good with Michkov and they're forced to basically sign him to a deal that's on par with Farabee because you're not really gaining anything in the trade in that way. Flyers fans are losing their minds on the main board but I really don't get it tbh lol

These are two guys who would've been thought to be major pieces in the rebuild and they were tossed away for two guys who probably aren't in Philadelphia in 2 years and a 2nd round pick.

Jesus lol

I'd say we can all stop complaining about the cap except you know players' salaries will go up about as fast as the cap does

That Bratt deal is going to look AMAZING

Ya, I definitely get it but Frost/Farabee aren't insane needle movers imo to care about. They might be major pieces on Philly but Philly also just needs to get better overall on the forward side. Again, if Briere does something with that cap space then it's a great move. If he doesn't, it's bad.

The cap's not going to 113 million in 3 years. Hopefully the other GMs think it will and hopefully Fitz doesn't, but it's not going there. It's an estimate based on the economy as of a few months ago.

You're speaking in a forum that devoted several angry pages to Alex Urbom being lost to waivers. It sucks to lose competent players and get very little for them, even if this is the right long-term move, I can see why it doesn't look like it in Philadelphia. Briere sold low and got a bad return.

If this is accurate just assume even half way it’s true then the devils 1000000% have to win with the core locked into these cheap deals. Big jump like that gives teams with their cores locked cheap deals have a massive advantage

I mean I do get it but I also understand Briere not hitching his ride to guys that his coaching staff doesn't like + middling players who they drafted in the first round. It's understandable for them to be mad how they turned out. The Flyers also probably realize they're going nowhere with that forward core and need to improve the roster. FWIW, I think Briere has done a decent job in the draft but he sucks everywhere else.

Still got the entire actual core locked up for another 2 years and Jack/Bratt/Timo are locked till 2030. Good chance they splurge on some UFA's for depth purposes to surround the core with or they legit could look to pick teams off that are going to be in cap hell by being dumb

Why cant it? I know the NBA makes a ton more but theyve risen 50m in five years including covid! The NHL cant recover from a stagnant cap for half a decade and raise it by 25 in three years?

Edit:

I do not think the economy will sustain an NHL that makes the projected revenues in the coming years, it has nothing to do with the NHL as a whole. If the economy stays afloat, those projections make a lot of sense.
