Ugh

Almost Mercer

Shut up crowd. That was an obvious penalty

That Borgen deal is bad

Like, not franchise killing obviously, and if you squint you can see the logic, but my complaint with all these extensions is the same: who is outbidding you on that guy? You’re bidding against yourself right no why are you getting f***ed?

going rate for 6/7 RHD is $3m/year.

He's probably a 4/5 so it seems fine. Length is weird. Seems like more of a negative for Schneider since it blocks him from ever moving up in the rotation. Maybe the Rangers think he's got nothing else to give?

We’ll see

Ratanen wasn’t away from Mac that much and the other make-shift lines he ended up weren’t so good, particularly when the forwards were missing due to injuries/suspension (like Lehktonen and Nichushkin).

Mittelstadt is having a lousy year, and basically doesn’t do shit lol, after seemingly giving them something resembling a 2C last season.

AFP Analytics just posted “Midseason Extension Projections” (fun!).

As you can see, they had projected 3 years/3.565m.

This projections in Luke and Kovacevic seem low. Is Borgen even that far ahead of Kovacevic?

The Luke one will probably be a little more, but I do think 8.6 was a good at one point. May be a touch higher. If he gets 9 rather than 8.6 I wouldn't be shocked.

Not at all sure how they are pulling that kovacevic number though. A guy playing meaningful top 4 EV defensive minutes for a playoff team isn't going to get paid like a 7th d-man.

8.6 would be hilarious for obvious reasons.

One plus for the Canes is Aho and Rantanen did play together when they were coming up on the same Finland U18 and U20 teams. They won a gold in 2016. They’ll also get to play together in 4 Nations Series soon.

Curious what he signs for. AFP Analytics had him at 8 years/13.228m.

wow. so he walks in UFA or they sign him to a massive contract. i hope it cripples that franchise either way

I mean, what Rantanen considered "below his market value" and what the team was willing to offer could still be very far apart. Happens all the time.

Still, it definitely seems like they blindsided him. From what we've heard about the way Fitz does business, he would have handled the situation better.

Rantanen has the same agent as Draisaitl, Laine, Ristolainen, Chychrun, plus Guentzel and MAF are clients of the same agency.

None of those guys get underpaid. My guess is they tried within a certain timeframe and the Avs didn't want to play agent games past that.

Legitimately think Chicago's return is the more bewildering bit.
