They would not have gotten a 2nd for hall at the deadline.

If they could have, they almost certainly would have. Clearly they have been shopping hall, clearly they knew what his price point was.

they didn't retain on hall. instead they retained on someone else, for a difference of about 150k

I think you’re giving the Hawks’ front office more credit than they deserve.

some stupid ass team would have paid a 3rd for Hall at the deadline

Blackhawks suck
What's the difference?

they will pay 150k more real money than if they retained 50% on hall today.

Now, if you wait until the deadline, Hall is owed about a million dollars in the meantime.

He also may get hurt and you get nothing.

Our top 6 is absolutely an issue and that has to be addressed.

how many true "top 6" players (hate that term since almost every team uses a top 9 nowadays) do you think every team has?

we have 4 unquestioned.

brother, they did BOTH things, not one thing. If they did one of the things, I'd agree

they absolutely got robbed if all theyre getting is a 3rd.

Who knows how much more Hall will sulk between now and the deadline, scoreline players who age out of playing on scorelines tend to return very little at the deadline. That said, he's perfect for Carolina.

Chicago was playing him 14 minutes a game in January, with 4 of the last 5 games under 15 minutes.

Assuming the alternative was trading him for a 3rd at the deadline the difference is:

-save about a million dollars in real money
-eat about 1.5 mill in cap (which they accrue at a ridiculous pace so no worries there)
-lose about 10-15 games of hall
-do not risk him getting hurt

They're retaining on hall? I have not seen that. If so, that is dumb.

If not, this saves them a bit of real money and helps other teams out with the cap.

I agree with 4 unquestioned top 6 forwards. The only thing that gives me pause is the rumors that the Devils were in on Stamkos and Marchessault. Clearly to me it means that Fitz wanted to add a top 6 forward.

He didnt and we signed Tatar.

I dont think the Devils wanted to enter the season with Palat in the top 6.

I'm not saying I am against adding up front, of course I wouldn't be. But I dont think that it is really true that we have a hole there.

My biggest complaint has been the lack of a true 3C basically this whole year. Even when Haula was playing, he was mostly useless. We saw what Meier did the other night with an AHLer at center. I think if this team gets an actual guy who can play 3C, that will balance out the rest of the lines nicely. Ideally, we get 2 "third" liners tbh, and then trot out Cotter-Haula-Lazar as the 4th line.
