Around the NHL 2024-2025

It’s close but I’d probably choose Colorado as I’d rather face Wedgewood than Oettinger but it depends on the health of Heiskanen and Robertson. If those two are healthy then the decision would not be close and I’d want absolutely nothing to do with Dallas.

That said, I prefer to keep my focus on WPG for now. I’ll be happy to face any team in the next round.

After a new jury was selected, the trial against the 5 2018 WJC members got started again yesterday. TSN’s Rick Westhead had this to say on it:

So Batherson wasn’t charged but was clearly there and took 5 videos of the incident. This reminds me that when the rumors first started coming out, 8 guys were said to be involved but then only 5 of them were charged. So they must’ve determined Batherson’s involvement didn’t rise to the level of criminality. So he might be judged in the court of public opinion but he escaped getting charged with an actual crime. Maybe because he cooperated and supplied the Crown with these videos. Then again, I’ve heard the players voluntarily supplied the videos thinking they would exonerate them but instead, the prosecutors saw it as proof of crimes and it’s very likely these videos that take gave them the proof they needed that took it from a he said, she said to them actually getting charged with crimes.

This is not correct.

The Crown and the Defense stipulated the authenticity of 5 videos taken by Batherson from the bar, which was where the woman and some players were before going to the hotel room where the incident occurred.

Batherson's potential involvement is unknown beyond that.

Were Batherson videos from the hotel room? Some comments on Twitter that they were the bar videos. Do we know whether he was in the room?

yep. but i'd rather play them than the refalanche. ref fest series is no bueno.

this is why i wanted in the pacific bracket. but ill be happy for the blues to advance no matter who they play. blues actually seem to have the stars number in the playoffs since 2001. even in 99 it was a close series.
100% this. While the Stars have the better goalie, they play a more plodding defensive game like the Jets. I think it suits us better. And while down 3-2, the Avs are absolutely flying. And to your point, there isn’t a team in the league outside the Oilers that gets more BS calls than them. Especially when they are trailing. And the league will help them with the whole Landeskog feel good story. C’mon Dallas, do your freaking job and get rid of them. Then the Blues need to do their job!!!

This is incredibly irresponsible wording from Westhead. The way he words his tweet invites speculation and leads people to believe that Batherson was in the hotel room videotaping the incident. Just incredibly poor journalistic reporting from Westhead with this specific tweet. It's clear a ton of people took it as Batherson being in the room. It's insane he hasn't clarified what he meant or took it down and reworded it yet, especially considering how many people have misinterpreted it so far. Honestly leads me to believe that engagement might be a factor in how he reports things, sadly.

I think the Blues could beat Colorado in Round 2, but are not likely to beat Dallas. Dallas has too much fire-power up-front.
Blues have shown an ability to limit the damage from MacKinnon & Makar and have won their last three games versus the Avalanche.

The Avalanche don't impress me at all. I'd actually be more worried about facing a healthy Minnesota club than the Avs. In order of the clubs I would be least confident in the Blues ability to beat in a playoff series, to most confident, I'd probably rank:

(Assumes every club is healthy)
1: Dallas
2: Vegas
3: Edmonton
4: Minnesota
5: Winnipeg
6: Los Angeles
7: Colorado

After what I’ve seen from Vegas, I would move them down a few spots at least.

Every series in the East could be over before the Jets and Blues start game five tomorrow night. If the Blues go 7 with Winnipeg, the East should already be into Round 2 by then.

Stop it with that nonsense. All Eastern Conference series are going to 7, and all game 5's, 6's, and 7's will be double/triple OT. :D

Not surprised. He refused to sign a multi-year extension there earlier this year so Vancouver didn’t exercise their option on another year for him. I wouldn’t be keen to stay with the disfunction there either. My guess is he goes to Philly.
Vancouver has a GM and THREE AGMs. Their front office and other leadership is bloated to the max. Too much of a committee. They need a great leader to make decisions. Not acquiescence by committee.

One more indictment of Vancouver’s leadership group.

dallas is probably going to win the west. lineup is too stacked.
I just hope they get by the Avs. Once they do that, let the chips fall where they may. I think it’s between Dallas and VGK honestly, with Minnesota being the potential surprise of the playoffs if they get by the 1st round.

The fact that Dallas is beating the Avs with one of the top 5 players in the western conference out injured and he's supposedly day-to-day coming back any minute does not make me relish our chances against them should we advance, or those for the rest of the West. But even then, after so many years of flat cap the parity in the league is unrivaled. No team is really that much better than anyone else.
