You sure like to make up shit and operate within that shit. It's weird.

Anyway......I put out into the ether a call for a response from one of y'all regarding my takes on Dallas.
I fully expected someone to inquire about my current stance on Dallas, but this response/inquiry is disappointing. We all know that many individuals here wait for opportunities to call out a member's past posts. It's weak and lame.

Anyway x2......Their defense is a little better with Ceci, but it still stinks. There are TWO reasons Dallas is in the place they currently are. Seguin and Jake. Seguin helped the team bank points early in the season by ripping off 20 pts in 19 games. He finally succumbed to his injury, but might be back for the playoffs.

Jake has been Vezina-level this season. Nuff sed.

SCREEEEEEEEECH!!!!!!

Wait a minute. What is this shit?

Here I am typing a bunch of letters in response to some bullshit.

My deep-dive into the Dallas Stars was an exercise in thought. Not an exercise in right or wrong. It sounds like you want to be right. I don't care to be right. I care to analyze and if part of my analysis is off, then so be it.

Maybe I will try the gotcha thang and sneak around waiting to call out someone for a previous position.

My recommendation to you and to all of HF is to think for the sake of thinking, not for the sake of being right.

Nice backtracking. The only reason I brought it up is that you were so adamant that Dallas wasn't that great and I found it amusing. Now I find your defensiveness amusing. You got a lot of snark, my guy.

I take no pleasure in being right in this case, but I think most people recognized that Dallas was a wagon even before this year. They have the deepest forward lineup in the NHL, so I'm not sure how someone can say they're in this position only because of Seguin and Jake. But if they can stick it to Colorado, then I could get behind the Stars in the short term.

I don't sit around and wait for "gotcha" moments but sometimes posts are so absurd that they stick in my mind more than others.

Right on, Bubba!

I got a little snarky there, dude mahn. I’m sorry.

I really, really, really want Winnipeg to hold off Dallas to win the division.

From a Blues fan standpoint, I'd much rather play Winnipeg in round 1 than Dallas if we wind up in the WC2 spot. I think we match up better against Winnipeg than Dallas and I want to feel the nervous energy in Winnipeg if they have to go against a surging Blues team who got hot under a new coach to storm back into playoff position in the 2nd half of the season. Not to mention the national narrative of Binner vs Helly. Do we win that series? Smart money says no, but I want to see how quiet that building can get if we take one of the first two games.

From an NHL fan standpoint, I would love to see Rantanen and the Stars playing against Colorado. The combination of narrative plus two legitimately damn good teams would make for a great matchup. I don't like the playoff format, but since we are stuck with it I'm rooting for the most exciting series possible in round 1. In the Central, I think that is Dallas vs Colorado by a mile.

Winnipeg also plays Vancouver twice this month, so I'll already be rooting for them in those two games.

Ekblad suspended 20 games for violating substance abuse policy. Panthers have 18 regular season games left. Do suspensions carry into the playoffs? If so, could be huge if he misses games 1-2 of a playoff series potentially against Toronto or Tampa if they fall out of first place.

If it is fully served, then, yes, he will miss at least the first game or two of the playoffs.

The Canes/Rants situation is messed up.

Random because the news just came out, but how much would you guys be interested in signing J. Toews as a 3rd/4th line center/winger if it was league min or a million bucks? I think I would have a hard time saying no to that given his career and the type of leader he was. Curious what you all think.

What news?

I was guessing maybe he ended up in Detroit and we can just rename them to the old blackhawks.

No interest at all. The last thing we need is a "leader" that teaches the Kids that it's ok to pack up and go home when you get sad.

I'd be really interested in doing a 1 year deal at league minimum base salary with some games played bonuses (AKA the Ryan Suter contract).

From our perspective, we love bringing low risk competition to camp and I would like to see Dvorsky have to take the 3C spot from someone rather than enter camp having to really blow it to lose the 3C job. But I also don't want that someone to create a long-term roadblock or be so good that Dvorksy has basically no shot to win the job. Toews fits that mold pretty well. We have a tangible need for faceoff and PK ability, which are two skills that should have declined the least for Toews. If he is better than Dvorsky, then we upgrade the 3C spot for next year as we (presumably) are trying to develop Snuggy in the top 9. If Dvorsky wins the job but Toews can still play at the NHL level, then he would be a good fit at 4C to force Snuggy to wing. And obviously if he turns out to be fully washed then we don't really lose anything. He makes a ton of sense for what we need.

From his perspective, we probably make a good deal of sense. I think he'll get a good number of offers, but I think a lot of them will be from teams with better/more competition for their 3C role. How many contenders can offer him as much opportunity to win a 3C job AND the clear fallback to 4C if he falls short? And of those contenders, how many would have the willingness to offer as much in potential bonus money? Beyond basic mony/opportunity concerns, we would also offer some degree of familiarity. He has spent his entire career in the Central division, so our travel/schedule would be among the most similar to what he had in Chicago. And not for nothing, but we have a pretty good reputation around the league for offering guys their last chance in the NHL. We've beaten the philosophy of culture vs tanking topic to death around here, but the path we have taken has shown players that we view ourselves as a team on the upswing and looking to play 82+ meaningful games next year.

He might get better offers, but I think we could make a pretty compelling pitch. I think his situation aligns with our needs/goals pretty damn well. I think we could do a lot worse as a low-risk stopgap gamble, even if you believe that he has a huge uphill battle to be a replacement-level bottom 6 player. Plus, I think it would annoy the hell out of Hawks fans, which is almost worth it by itself.
