I would be very surprised if this announcement is news to NHL teams, I would bet that they already had a pretty good idea of where the cap was heading

So let’s assume Saad put in a trade request at the beginning of the season or at some point. Why didn’t he play well enough that his contract would have been worth it to a contender? If he wanted Playoff hockey his performance here is a big reason we are not in the hunt anymore. 6 or more goals from him and who know we might have six more points.
Would be Interesting to find out if there was some other type of drama that prevented him from playing to his historical form other than the distraction of becoming a new father. I truly thought he would hang up the skates not chase a cup with Vegas. Since it is Vegas I can’t even wish him the best…grr.

For sure, and I don't see how it really makes that much of a difference. Sure, you'd be able to pay more for Rantanen, but you also have to pay exponentially more for Makar, and any other player on your roster that's not under contract today.

Bout what you would expect as far as the return. I would be pretty depressed if I was a Vancouver fan. That team looked poised to do big things for a long time with all the key pieces of a hockey team locked up. Rather amazing how it’s all unraveled in 4 months.
We would have probably needs to do something like Our 1st, Buchinger, and idk, I guess maybe Bolduc? to have gotten Miller. I'm not really interested in Miller from a personality standpoint because it feels like he is a ticking timebomb every time he joins a new team.

Thats more than I thought they'd get for Miller, but I don't really see that trade helping Vancouver actually do anything. Rutherford's "we might not even get a 2C" comment was obviously prepping the fans for Chytil.
