The craziest thing to me about his behavior is that the video isn't even the part where he took the puck or any of the original nonsense that got the crowd to start booing him. This video was a second act of jackassery separate from the fight over the puck. I understand someone getting tunnel vision about getting a puck for their grandchild. That doesn't mean that I approve of the behavior, but I can at least understand his perspective/argument that the puck was still fair game until it is in someone's hands and that he scooped it up to make his grandkid's day. You would hope that the entire crowd vocally turning on you would cause you to realize the greaseball nature of the move, but I can at least comprehend the motivation for that part of it.

But this video comes well after that part and he goes out of his way to double down on the asshole scale.

To summarize the article, a player's wife got the kid a different game puck, an usher led her down to the kid, and then the crowd cheered when the kid finally got a puck. It was a nice moment and that could have been it. Both parties get a game puck, the people associated with the team deftly smooth over a hostile crowd with a nice moment, and everyone 'wins' without having to escalate the situation to formal action by the staff. The jackass could have just stayed in his seat, grumbled about how everyone is wrong but him, and everyone would have moved on without him having to give up the puck he snagged. Maybe a few more boos/heckles from the crowd, but I'd bet good money that after the nice moment pretty much everyone would have moved on and resumed focus on the game.

Instead, the moment the usher and player's wife start to walk away he decides to get out of his seat and make things all about him. He gets into it with a different fan (not related to or sitting with the kid), then makes it a point to start berating the kid's mom and putting his finger in her face. I'm sure he was getting some (well earned) nasty insults hurled his way after he stood up, but what the hell are you doing dude?

He didn't even have to do the 'right thing' here. He just had to not actively be an asshole when people associated with the team did a nice thing for the kid he screwed over. Absolutely baffling. Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. He could have just smugly enjoyed his 'victory' but instead he got himself tossed from the game and made a complete ass of himself in front of his grandkid.

Hopefully that is his last time in that building. The moment he grabbed at the arm of the usher walking in front of him is more than enough justification for the Pens to permanently trespass him.

Edit: just want to join the consensus that adults swiping pucks/shirts/whatever from kids is complete loser behavior. I'm not trying to defend his action of letting the kid free the puck and then swiping it for his own family.
I don't know what he said to the mom, but it got her really fired up, she looked ready to throw down with the geezer, you just have to be some sort of special kind of tool to act like that

I mean how can you NOT admire the kid’s tenacity scaling the net or putting the work in to grab ensnared puck? Then you decide it’s fair game after the kid knocks it loose?

Well it's a good thing ole Ab McDonald, who once popped in 10 goals and 5 assists in 16 playoff games in 1970 for your good ol St Louis Blues, died in 2018, or else he would have cringed the shit out of this guy wearing his jersey

I don't get the issue here but of course I didn't see the first video. So without prior knowledge and only going by what I read here, why does everyone think it's some ones duty to give shit to kids? I don't give a f*** about your kids, if you want your kids to have a puck then go beat everyone else to the puck and give it to your kid. Like Brian said, the guy mentioned his grandkid. So does he not have the right to get a puck because of YOUR f***ing kid? I mean all that changes obviously if he took it from the kids hands, in that case he's a dick.

Ok so if this is what happened then the dude is a dickbag.

and after the players wife got a puck for the kid, he proceeded to go up to the mom and kid and start saying shit

From the comments in the article, apparently the kid didn't climb the netting. He stood in front of the guy who eventually took the puck and shook the glass to shake the puck free. The puck snatcher was angry his view was blocked and the kid broke the rules about shaking the glass. At least according to one commenter who everyone assumes is the guy.

I can get being annoyed if someone stood in front of your seat at the glass and shook it, potentially shaking a hunk of vulcanuzed rubber lose to fall 20 feet toward him and his family.

His behavior after that in the video was inexcusable, but I at least better understand what triggered him if true. His view of the game was blocked and when the puck fell, it obviously fell near him. That could have been dangerous if he was unaware.

Again, his behavior in the video is unacceptable. But I don't think he woke up dreaming about how he was going to ruin some kids fun. I kind of understand his initial annoyance. But it's something you just laugh off and let go. Not do what he did.

I’m only going off of the attendees’ comments from the video who said the puck was stuck in the net. Regardless, f*** that guy. AND his adult grandchild

If was in that position and I saw the kid wanted the puck, I'd probably help the kid get the puck.

It's a hockey game. It's supposed to be fun, and it's more fun for young fans. If something like that annoys someone that much, they should stay the f*** home.

People like that need to save the curmudgeonly BS for their couch.

I'd assume this

I’m of the opinion that kids don’t do anything wrong. They simply do and the parents/society guides.

The kid blocked the old fart’s view. So what?

I recently had a conversation with a Gen Z dude who was exasperated by the adults/older people in his life. I said to him, Remember all of those stupid kids you went to school with? They become stupid adults. In other words, most of the adults around you are complete idiots.

That old fart in the video was most assuredly one of those idiot classmates you had growing up. People don’t change, they adjust and modify. And too many don’t even do that.

I read multiple people who said they were in that section say the kid didn't get the puck while the play was going on, it was during a break

Making it even worse for the old guy.

Some kid is always getting in my way at the store or wherever in public. No big deal. It’s just a kid being a kid.

I’ve been an impatient asshole with a kid once or twice in my life, so that was a lesson learned. Chill out. They’re just kids and you’re scaring them.

The grandkid of that guy was an adult. The kid whose mom he verbally harassed for whatever stupid reason after the kid got another puck was a teenager. It doesn't excuse the old man's actions in the slightest.

The only reason to be a dickbiscuit to a kid is if they're shouting racial slurs at opposing players (unfortunately, a kid was doing that and more at a Cardinals/Pirates game I was at. It was a very shitty experience, and a sobering reminder that even the St. Louis Cardinals fanbase has their idiots.) - and even then, the people those kids are learning it from deserve to be verbally reamed far more than the kids themselves.

Hold on a sec!!

He's dickbag full of dickbiscuits? Damn! You f***ed up, old man!!

Good times in Pittsburgh ... the video clip someone took in this story is worth the watch

What a jagoff.
