I'd look out for the Jets this year. Wheeler and Sceiffele are both absolute studs, Laine is a goal-scoring machine, they'll have Trouba for the full year, and they signed Steve Mason. Their goalies sucked last season

But Steve Mason also sucks, and Wheeler, Scheifele, and Laine were all there last year.
 
IIRC the Jets have been terrible with their special teams and take a ton of penalties which is also a big part of the problem. Maybe goaltending helps that but so far they've been another "but look how promising and awesome this team is they're about to break out!" team for several years

Took him a long while to be as good as he is now...at 31 it'll be interesting to see how many more years he keeps it up

he won't be the difference.

Jets GAA as a team last year: .904
Mason GAA last year: .908

He had one Great year, two decent years and an awful year in Philly. In the three years before that he was struggling to stay above .900

Not exactly the savior they may be hoping for

Well he's a bigger kid, but one could argue he's been at or close to this level for 5 years, since going to Winnipeg really.

You do realize how bad those Philly defenses were right? When you look at his adjusted numbers, they're very good. Mason is a good goalie.
 
That rule is straight up ****ing stupid. Just get rid of the necessity for a player's skate to be on the ice, as long as his body has not fully crossed the blue line, and it'll avoid so much of the ticky tacky ****. A player's skate being half of a cm off the ice shouldn't negate a scoring play.
 
Yeah I`m not a fan of that rule. Do you think the game has improved the recent years with all the coach challenges? The game get slower and you`ve a huge game delay everytime a ref. need to double check a coach challenge.
 
don't like the change. teams now won't challenge unless they are 100% sure and if its that blatant the league should handle it.

i think the bigger issue with the offsides challenge is the lack of limitations on how far you can go back and challenge something that didn't have a direct impact on a goal. big difference imo between a blown call on a 3 on 1 that leads to an immediate goal. and a team scoring 30 seconds later
 
I agree with a lot of the previous comments.

This is the league over-complicating the matter.

If the player is still on or over the line, regardless of whether their skate in on the ice, or flying over their damn head, they should be considered on-side.

No one has a problem with judging a puck that's in mid-air, a skate should be no different.
 
Parros is apparently a really smart guy, and understands just as well as anyone the physical side of the game--both what's good and what's bad. Racked up a million penalty minutes and played rough as hell, yet was never even fined. He strikes me as a guy who will be very fair and can actually use personal experience in evaluating plays.

Quintal was a ********* and can go **** himself.
 
Ryan Ellis out until January for the Preds. Unfortunate since he had such a nice year last season
 
So Pat Lafontaine said on SN590 "that there's consensus in the hockey world to move to a 19-year-old draft." Interesting if true. Definitely a hand out to some of the older players by limiting the number of ELCs entering the league for a year. Also keeps more talent in Junior.

However, it should lead to stronger drafting by most teams. An extra year to evaluate kids, and an extra year of development for them will definitely allow more of the cream to rise to the top.
