I need to reply to my own post because I found this gem on the Ranger's board:

In any event, this move has got to but a bit of a damper on the variety of trade proposals we’ve been hypothesizing with both ADA and Strome going the other way for salary purposes.

I hardly think Buffalo is going to be amenable to retaining salary in an Eichel trade

They still think it's only a matter of time before Eichel is a Ranger

Not only that, but their genius proposal involved Eichel being traded to the Rangers for ADA and Strome as the center pieces

He was a Murray draft product, and his rights expired under Botts, right?
