Around the NHL — Episode XLXVII

Florida is showing how you beat speed & skill with a relentless forechecking that never seems to let up & they support each other all over the ice. They never seem to take a break & play the same way every minute of every period & take away time & space constantly.
They don't care about scoring, that will come & it does, they don't care about taking penalties, they will happen & they attack during the penalties too. Ott at times can play this way & when they do they do well, they just need to keep it up, it seems to be the formula to win in the playoffs & Florida has a lot of playoff experience.

Watching them last night, so impressed by how they get pucks from the boards and from scrums to the slot and scoring areas. Simple plays but they are the best team in the NHL at getting pucks from the dirty areas to the scoring areas.

They better make some serious adjustments quick. Carolina is showing no ability to compete which surprised me. Florida is playing like they can do no wrong. So connected. Mano o mano the Canes just don't match up and they can't play to their identity.

Its hard to win the corsi game if you play the game in your end and can't establish any zone time

This tells me two things, first the playoffs are very different than the regular season & defence first wins in the playoffs. And second that a tough relentless forecheck takes time & space away from skilled players & suffocates them in their own end, but Florida also does it all over the ice. Relentless forecheck, make smart easy plays to the open player, don't complicate it, don't get cute, play as a five man unit, support each other all over the ice, constantly hit them no fly bys & wait for their opportunities & pounce like a Panther.

P.S. they are also getting good goaltending when it is required, making the right stop at the right time & not letting in any weak goals helps a lot.

BTW driving across Florida from Fort Myers to Miami they had signs that read Warning Panther Crossing, that must be a bitch at night to suddenly have a Black Panther jump on your hood? :naughty: Or a 25' Python, they have those as well in the everglades down there, all of a sudden the hot weather doesn't seem so hot.

How does this keep happening in Carolina? At least last year the games were close.

If they get swept again heads gotta roll. And I love Rod.

They're team is not as good as last year. They've lost Necas. I think getting this far was an achievement. They've got a stupid amount of cap space upcoming, I don't see how they fire Rod without giving him a chance with the roster they're expecting this summer.

They never have good goalies and they are small in key positions. Good players, not enough real playoff guys and their goalies are fakers that get good stats behind great regular season teams

Wouldn't be surprised if Carolina made the ECF next year. They've got a shit ton of capspace and assets to improve their roster.

really hope Staois is watching FLA and how they built their team. We have the Tkachuk and the top centre .....need to make quality trades and build around an identity
Gonna be tough due to FA preferences but definitely fun to watch.

Their culture as well. Heard a story on CIH about a player who joined the Cats last year and in training camp, made some kind of fancy play. The vets on that team went up to him and said we don't do that kind of stuff here. Here's hoping that's the type of culture SS/Greener are trying to build.

Dallas forwards out here making Skinner look like Brodeur (granted he had some good saves).

They keep holding onto the puck for that extra split second before releasing it, it's so annoying. Duchene is the only forward creating anything and the guys the 3rd oldest forward.
