Around the NHL — Episode XLXVII

Man Toronto is such a trash fanbase. I'm so happy those classless fans have to experience another epic failure. Now I want Mitch to join Colorado and win a cup like Kadri did.

I’m not a “Canada needs a Cup” person, but Edmonton winning the Cup really seems like the only interesting outcome from the final four. I’m pretty in indifferent to all the teams, but I’d literally feel nothing if one of the other teams wins. Just another dull finish.
Dallas-Carolina has the whole MacKinnon Merchant grudge-match aspect.

I want Carolina or Dallas to win it all. Plus the Rantanen revenge tour would be dope.

Don't want Florida to even have success again with their current ratbag roster and don't want Edmonton to have success while they have McDrai. Another Edmonton -Florida final would be my worst case

If I was the dealmaker in Toronto, I'd b dangling Matthews in front of Utah. Sure they'd love a (semi) local guy as an exciting piece, and they have a lot of young assets to trade. Then tell Marner he isn't getting a pay raise and if he wants to sign here, sign for the same money as the last deal...if not, trade his rights for anything you can (LA or Buffalo or any team with young assets). Keep the test of the main guys.

A core shakeup with good assets coming back could reset their window and send them to the third round as early as next season.

Ouch. Sens fans have no bragging rights over anything until this can change

That might be the worst stat I have ever seen
Lmao every team has bragging rights over the Leafs. Nobody cares about playoff series from 20+ years ago. Toronto is the most pathetic team in the league after Buffalo.

I don’t see Matthews waiving for Utah.

LA or Vegas maybe, doubt he goes to Utah.

I think you're right about Utah, but it would be a great situation for a superstar player with enough sway to call the shots with management to inherit.

If they went to him and said we are ready to go all in over the next three seasons if you waive, they have the assets and cap flexibility to acquire just about anybody to play alongside him.

Maybe. Maybe not.

Perhaps the lure of being close to home and going into a totally different and kinda quiet and new market where he could put his stamp on things, but still be somewhat anonymous outside the rink, has a certain appeal at this stage of things.

Pretty much this. The Leafs are a laughing stock, and that laughing stock has owned us every time we've met in the playoffs. Florida, Tampa, Boston, MTL, and even friggin CBJ has been able to take advantage of their weak ass core, yet we couldn't. Yes it's because it was our first time in the dance, but the results all that really matters. The Leafs have owned us in the playoffs.

As much as I want the Leafs to finish 9th every year for the rest of their organization, I desperately want us to get a series win over them.

Funny thing is they keep changing and adjusting everyone but the core guys. Maybe its time they open their eyes and change the only thing they haven't changed yet...hear that Shani!!

The fans? I'm not sure how they could accomplish that :D

Like Paris Saint-Germain getting rid of Neymar, Messi and Mbappé and finally clicking. It's so deviously clever I hope to God they don't do it. Spreading out the talent over the whole team could work for them, on the other hand, the fanbase there is so desperate to go fanboy over their players, they'll turn anyone into a star and force them to get overpaid

It’s a terrible stat, I’ll give you that…but leafs going 0-5 immediately after beating us helps soften the blow

That's a silver lining but very small though compared to the shame of being owned by that team. It would be no big deal vs any other team but Leafs/Habs are direct rivals which fanbases don't really like the Sens in general

Bro they can't even temporarily own a spot in the third round

We also lost 4 games against Buffalo this year.

I could live with having a negative record vs Toronto/Montreal in a regular season (not every year though) but in the playoffs, 0-5 is annoying. At least we're 1-1 vs Montreal

I had consciously forgotten about that stat but damn it sucks. We're a bit bad lucked vs them though as this year it was a hard task as a new playoffs team vs an experimented one. And some of these early 2000's matchup they were the favorite as well but we probably should have won 1 or 2 series against them at least.

Let's hope we finally beat them in the next few years

I've seen my team play for the Cup live in person. No Leaf fan under the age of 60 can say that. And I'll take that experience any day over winning a series over the Leafs.

ok that's a better silver ling stat :

Since 2002-03, number of times these teams played in conference finals (ECF)

Ottawa : 3
Toronto : 0

Every Sens fan needs to reply with that stat when a Leafs fan bring the 5-0, and also the 2-15 vs other teams lmao

I was watching the Florida-TML game 7 with my cousins (leafers) and I tried a bit of friendly chirping, but they brought up Lalime and that shut me up lol

I think that series loss stung the most from me. I was a huge Lalime fan growing up, and Spezza was my favourite player as of the mid of the 03-04 season. Hossa and Alfie were demons that year and I thought we'd go on a revenge tour and make the finals.

Gotta love the emotional damage hockey fans of rival teams can do to each other when they're family lol

Seems inevitable Marner will leave Toronto. If they use that cap to bring in complimentary pieces I think they could actually be better next year. I would also move on from Tavares unless his deal is pretty short term.

They have a decent D group that can play playoff style (I think they could use one more puck mover). They have a very good goalie tandem imo, and cheap next year. Obviously they have a few top forwards but depth sucks kinda. I hate it, but Marner moving on could be the best thing for them if they can do good with the cap space they have. The window is closing but they have a few years left before the D group ages out. I hope they bungle it.
