I knew they were going to lose Game 7 when all the fans were busy trying to “craft narratives” about what would happen if they win, and how the Panthers would be “chokers” or whatever.

That it was “impossible for the Leafs to choke because they won Game 6 against the odds”.

That kind of entitlement bleeds into the team itself. They still found a way to exit with a whimper.

It’s like the actual hockey is an imposition on what they actually want to do which is to rub it in people’s faces.

Unfortunately, you don’t get to write the story before it happens despite all the attempts in Toronto for like a decade.

There was a play early in the second period, I think, where a Panthers forward and Knies were in a puck battle along the boards high in the Leafs end. Matthews came swooping by and tried to chip it out from them and chase… would have had some open ice in the neutral zone if it had worked.

But it didn’t work, the Florida player won the battle and kept the puck in.

That’s play was all I needed to see to know which team would win.

Florida was too much for them.. what a relentless team with a fantastic forechecking system . Absolutely smothering.

Another fabulous Leafs loss in a game 7. The parade will have to wait at least another year.

Panthers Carolina both play an aggressive forechecking game.. I think the Panthers physicality will give them the edge. Should be good.

I thouroughly enjoyed yet another epic Leafs collapse.

Im done with the narratives. That team is never getting over the hump. Might as well just trade off the core and rebuild. What an embarassment of epic proportions to fail out so hard every single year.

That's the funniest part, because I could totally see them doing it too.
They'll replace the clear problem, which is obviously the equipment manager, Matthews will go to Turkey in the offseason, and then they'll reupholster the locker room seats... and the shared delusion of it being "totally our year this year" will be back.

Funny thing is they keep changing and adjusting everyone but the core guys. Maybe its time they open their eyes and change the only thing they haven't changed yet...hear that Shani!!
