Around the NHL — Episode XLXVII

Not sure how they can give Kane the charging penalty when he was clearly shoved in by McNabb but this is NHL reffing in the playoffs.

Makes no sense. Just like how Domi can run the numbers of Barkov with seconds left with the game decided and get a meaningless fine and no games. Hopefully Matthew beats the wheels off him next game with Tie in the stands.

It’s actually so impressive how almost all
of Dallas’ key players were drafted by them.

They escaped the Blues by the thinnest of margins and proceeded to continue playing the exact same underwhelming way.

There will be no escape this time.

Hellebuyck was pretty shite, but Otter didn't give the Jets a chance. 32 shots fired at him, 31 saves made, Otter stole that for Dallas.

Heiskanen isn't even at full strength. If Dallas makes it through, really hope they're at full strength to take on Edmonton

Calgary already has Mackenzie Weegar and Rasmus Anderson at RD and Zayne Pareksh at RD the way. You wonder if Calgary balances out thise minutes by saving money and dealing one of Weeger or Amderaon,

Quinn Hughes’s is running the Canucks. That market puts white light on its star players - Bure, Linden, Hughes, Lunongo, Naskund. they made Lunongot the Captain for Pete’s sakes, who does that to a goalie? .

Canucks end is near when the star players take over the franchise, it’s a cycle unique to that market. This will end with Hughes being traded out and the Canucks tanking.

The really boring stars with no personality do better in Vancouver, Sedins/Naslund/Linden. They give you nothing and seem despressed having to talk to the press.

The big personality stars - Bure, Luingi, Hughes, Bertuzzi all burn out or succumb to the spotlight. Vancouver is a major city without a major personality (unless you want to pretend you ski, bike down a mountain, climb down a cliff and swim in the ocean all on the same day when most people are a actually just stuck in traffic all day and the hockey stars become gods there. Weird market, not a good place to be an NHL Captain., maybe the worst market in the NHL to be a Captain

There’s been a lot of discussion from Flames fans on the boards surrounding Andersson who had an up and down year with injuries and also is in the last year of his contract.

Weegar stepped up and has been their best player with a few years remaining on his contract. He won’t get dealt.

Andersson would be very interesting but given the Flames are pushing for playoffs and trying to improve it would take an equally good roster player going back their way. Then you need to re-sign him.

Any trade of the sort likely needs to involve Chabot because Flames need a LD.

Seems it’s heading in the wrong direction form recent headlines

“Quinn wants to play with his brothers”
“Quinn consulted on Coach hiring”
“Quinn consulted after Tocchet stepped away”
“Quinn at center of locker room dispute”
“Quinn wants to play with his best friend Josh Norris”
“Quinn kept of 4 nations roster”

Way too many negative headlines for a player of his age. Seems he’s unhappy and all these headlines are either leaks that’s he’s unhappy or leaks the Canucks front office is doing everything they can to keep him happy. Just feels like it’s a bad vibe and Vancouver never really pulls out of that, it always ends with a beloved star player leaving under weird circumstances

Remember Roberto Luongo was crying on the ice as a grown man because a Vancouver kept screwing up his trade request. Bure basically quit on the team, Linden was beloved but got driven out from Mark Messier jealousy.

Toxic market. Best in the NHL when you win, worst in the NHL when you loose

Yeah, I know people thought that a 1st for Ceci was an overpayment, but I liked it at the time. Now with the throw-in Granlund pulling his weight the trade looks solid.
Of course you’ll get flack for saying something positive about a favourite whipping post. Ceci’s had a lengthy career and somehow there’s been a lot of GMs & coaches that have made mistakes when acquiring him.

We arguably have that already with Greig.

Honestly I don't know how much more "toughness" you guys think this team need.

It's really not toughness we need, it's speed, skill and hockey IQ and that starts with drafting.

You have to be a special type of stupid to make political statements as a sports team owner considering the recent American/Canadian political climate.

I expect most billionaire owners don't have the interests of the average schmuck in mind, but having basic media training should be a given.

Billionaires egos are most likely much bigger than their desire to stay politically correct. They don't give a crap how much it's going to cost.

Actually why would the NHL suspend him? I mean, the US president does crap like that all the time. He sets up the example, like he did with covid and so many other things. No surprise population the population get dumber by the minute.

Dallas is just too good, that's all.
