Around the NHL — Episode XLXVII

I didnt see it originally (because the NHL cuts anything like that out of the highlights) but watching the replay it really doesn't look like much. That shot to the face that knocked both the straps off his mask though?? I don't think I've ever seen anything like that before, that hurt just watching

They were saying on the radio that Stolarz isn't ruled out to play today, I hope that's just gamesmanship because it's absolute negligence if they let him play, the NHL concussion protocol is a 6 stage process after allowing 24 to 48hrs of rest after the diagnosis, and each stage is supposed to be 24 hours,

If Tua Tagovailoa is any indication, the league(s) execs don’t actually care about players health. They just have to pretend to.

I'm no doctor, but that shake wasn't involuntary. Seems to be a thing people do a lot as a physical "oh shit, what was that" response. Not necessarily a "has to be a concussion" response.
I can't say I'm familiar with the research on this, but taking him at face value, the guy said it's a strong indicator, 72%, so not "has to be", rather, a strong likelihood.

Back in the day, you'd take big hit and they'd say you need to shake out the cob webs, I suspect that saying came from seeing events like this, oh, he was just shaking out the cob webs, but back in the day, we know a lot of guys played through minor (and major) concussions, because we just didn't know how to diagnose them as well, and we didn't know how risky it was to keep going.

Edmonton has had 5 straight come back wins, and McDeai aren't even the ones doing all these scoring.
Brown, Perry, Hyman, RNH, Janmark, and Kane all have score multiple times.

They might go all the way this year and if they do, I hope Brown comes back to Ottawa. He'd be great on our first line

Ayyyyeeee, just saw the Utah Mammoth announcement. Not the biggest fan of the colours, but love the name and design.

Wish Ottawa had a prehistoric badass animal to name their hockey team after.

Worst name in the league outside of Wild. If they're named after the animal they should be the Mammoths.

Still hate Utah's colour scheme but the logo is solid.

Mammoths are inherently cool, the mountain peaks are a good addition and the trunk and tusks forming a UT is also a nice touch.

The Wild is kinda lame for me because no imagery jumps out at me. Mammoth (even without the plural) makes me think of a badass tusked hairy elephant.

For me the worst names are:
  • Canadiens (we get it, you're francophone and have a rich culture)
  • Islanders (you live on an island, great)
  • Rangers (Owner's name being Tex and being nicknamed Tex's Rangers as a pun on Texas Rangers os so lame)
  • Capitals (obsessed with your own gov't)
  • Oilers (Y'all dig for oil)
  • Senators (when has a senator ever intimidated anyone, also obsessed with being a capital city)
  • Stars (obsession with Texas' lone star crap. At least North Stars sounded cool)
The history behind each of these sucks. Logo's are all trash except for the Sens' centurion

“Go Mammoth Go”

Lol. They’ll have to come up with something to chant.

As someone that has been found to have suffered several previously undiagnosed concussions, that's exactly what it was, and what the culture was - shake it off! Get back out there! I played with a kid that couldn't remember where we were, what the score was, or who scored between the 2nd and 3rd...he finished the game (and completed his hat trick).

The NHL refused to include SHAAKE in its protocols, so hie serious are they about reducing concussions? Stolarz took a shot to the head that blew his mask straps off. Maybe take a minute and make sure he's okay.
