Around the NHL — Episode XLXVII

Great atmosphere in the Jets-Blues, was going to say it's the most fun series so far, but Edmonton said hold my beer...

The Habs game felt a lot like what our game would've looked like if we were allowed to find our feet instead of having the refs take them out from under us as soon as we were doing so. It is what it is and at the end of the day we're both down 0-1

Also what would have happened if Ullmark made big saves. Never were we dominated at any point by the Leafs unlike the Caps against the Habs.

Man, it sucks so much for McDavid. He tied the game with 1:28 left in the 3rd and look at the determination in his face... just to get it taken away a minute later. What a fluky goal though, I hate when forwards miss their shot.

I think he will take it one year at a time, but I wouldn't put it past him. He broke his calf bone mid-season this year, too, you forgot to mention.

When you consider the level of talent in the league, his age, and the fact that he broke the goal record, it's been one of the great seasons of all time.

Yeah, he was still able to finish 3rd in scoring despite the injuries, insane

And yeah, I don't think there has been more talent in the NHL than today, AINEC. But the guy still remains one of the best at his age... just incredible. And Crosby also deserves the same type of accolades

McDavid, Draisaitl, MacKinnon, Kucherov, Kaprizov, Pastrnak, Eichel, Matthews, Barkov, Marner, Rantanen, Crosby, Panarin, Tkachuks, J. Hughes, Connor, Nylander, Point, Forsberg, Aho, Scheifele, Thomas, Stone, Reinhart, Hintz... that is just for forwards and the list goes on, Stutzle, Suzuki, Celebrini, Bedard, Keller, Pettersson, Boldy, Bratt, Tavares, etc etc etc

Tuesday morning thought - whatever troubles we might have, we aren't the Vancouver Canucks. Did anyone catch that news conference by Rutherford and Alvin yesterday? What a dumpster fire. Rutherford goes to the microphone and admits that his best player wants to leave in two years and go play with his brothers? Are you kidding me? Great message to give to your fans and your dressing room, not to mention the coach you want to keep. My God, the North Koreans could take Staios as a POW and torture him for days and he still wouldn't cough up any info on his plans, and here is Rutherford cheerfully blabbing to the media about the future of his superstar player, not to mention their detailed public description of how their other superstar is in bad shape and has a lousy work ethic. Yikes. God bless Andlauer and Staios...

He looked like he won the Cup only to give the puck away with a weak play on the game winner a few seconds later.

It wasn't great in our G1, but it wasn't that bad either.

Most of the penalties we got were legit.
If most of our penalties were legit and the same standard was applied to every play, we the whole night would have been special teams. I mean, whe PK Subban and Nick Kypreos are both siding with the Sens on the officiating being suspect, you know they done f***ed up.

Pretty much this.

After seeing the non-calls in the other series yesterday, it's the refs just being good ole inconsistent.

We still deserved to lose cuz our PK was so ass, but the complaints TML had against not getting calls against Florida last year can be used by us this year.

While I won't go so far as to say the PK was good, the 3 goals against were basically just lost draws leading to a shot. Of those initial shots, only the Nylander shot was actually dangerous, and that was because Giroux fell taking the draw giving him a free path to the net. The other two resulted in a rebound that we failed to clear, but it wasn't the typical poor PK that has cost us in the past. I do think that if we played a box instead of a diamond though we might have had a better chance of clearing the rebound though, so I guess you can chalk that up to our PK being bad...

In a perfect world, Ullmark is putting those rebounds to a safe space in the corner, or gathering them up himself. He had a bad game even if none of the goals against were bad goals. A goalie needs to make some saves on the tough shots, I don't blame him for any individual goal, but you can't let all of those in.

If it were a regular season game you'd be correct.

Sens clearly expected the refs to call the game like it was the playoffs, like every ref has done in the other series, and that was their mistake.

Lamoreillo should have been put out to pasture years ago

Has been coasting off of his reputation as a top GM in the early 2000s for a long time.

Good for the Isles.
