Around the NHL — Episode XLXVII

Man, can't believe I have witnessed Ovechkin's whole career, what a legend

I would take Washington over the Leafs any day.

I'd much rather beat the Leafs! Seriously, Caps GM has done an incredible job to build this team. Wait that Protas and Fehervary to come back

Man, Mackinnon has to be one of the best playoff performers of all time.

Crosby, Ovechkin, McDavid always talked about being generational and it's true but this MacKinnon guy is a machine. Since he broke out in 2017-18, 3rd highest PPG in season (McDavid, Kucherov) and playoffs (McDavid, Draisaitl)

IMO that was a pretty good effort by MTL. They could tighten up a bit on exits, get to the middle a bit better, etc., but many elements of their game (pace, goaltending, defending) were close to as good as you could expect. Washington also played just OK. Not bad by any means, but far from their top game at either end of the ice.

Washington's size, strength, and speed combination looks like too much for them.

I only watched bits and pieces of the game.

Was Montreal good, or were they closer to how they looked in some of the games to close out the season? I know a lot of people claimed that advanced stats had them playing unsustainably at the end of the season.

I thought MTL was pretty bad through two periods, but kicked it up in the third.

They were outplayed but Montembault kept them in the game long enough for Suzuki/Caufield and Hutson to start feasting. It is really the story of their season, they get outplayed but they hang around, and then their best players can almost score at will so they can really hurt you. They did get better as the game went on.

We are like the anti-Montreal. A lot of times we outplay the other team but we can’t bury our chances.

Not only has Ovie been a legend for 20 years, but he has been literally jaw-dropping for 20 years. In another 20, I'll still be able to recall more incredible moments from his career than just about any other player, and certainly any non-Sen.

The guy has grey hair and was 3rd in goals scored this season, 2nd in GPG and 15th in PPG! I mean, the guy still hits like a truck, a true force of nature.

Frankly, he should chase 1000 goals.

I think he will take it one year at a time, but I wouldn't put it past him. He broke his calf bone mid-season this year, too, you forgot to mention.

When you consider the level of talent in the league, his age, and the fact that he broke the goal record, it's been one of the great seasons of all time.

Weak first, better second, and excellent third. Goalie kept them in while they got their playoffs legs.

100%. If people argue that the Leafs got out chanced 5on5 due to score effect, then how do you explain Washington still dominating play even after taking a 2-0 lead? And Leafs are fully healthy on paper, versus Washington missing Protas and Ferhervary.
