I just started watching from the second period. I think it must have been about the clean hit Fantilli delivered on Leonard in the first.

It’s funny because it always feels to me like once you have the superstars the rest is so much easier but Edmonton and Toronto suggest otherwise. They have almost the opposite problems as us, where they got their superstars and then failed to round out the roster. Although the Oilers finally kinda got there, then botched it this summer.
 
The problem with superstars is that they take up most of a team's cap money & doesn't leave enough to fill in the roster with good players. They may be able to score a lot, but they also end up letting a lot of goals against. Playing great defensively is what wins in the playoffs & reducing your goals against is key to advancing in the playoffs. Great goaltending helps a fair amount too.

Edmonton had Draisaitl at 8.5 million (including this year) and still managed to botch it though.

They just made too many mistakes with their cap. If they’d kept McLeod (who is actually better than I thought he was, great trade for Buffalo), Broberg and Holloway they’d have a pretty good chance at winning this year. As it is they destroyed their own depth. Need a better goalie too.
 
I dislike Domi, but he's a little terror just like his dad when he drops the gloves, gave the much bigger Guhle all he could handle
 
7 mins to go in the second and mtl has 5 shots.

That’s pathetic. Especially under these circumstances.

Game plan against them would be to avoid taking penalties. We can dominate them 5on5

Stars are the real frauds. They've benefitted from goal tending this season far more than Winnipeg. Also benefitting from high shooting percentages. Even with Heiskanen, their defencemen still look worse than ours. Imagine having to play Ceci, Lybushkin, and Dumba? LMAO. Lindell is alright, but he's not good on the 2nd pairing by himself, and Bichsel has potential but is basically their Kleven for now.

I think they have a great young core and will be genuinely good in the future but this season they definitely got lucky. Wouldn’t be surprised if they take a step back next year and then eventually become good in 2027.

Idk if I'd bet on a significant step back, they should be adding Demidov, plus they lost both Dach and Laine for significant chunks of the season.
