Around the NHL — Episode XLXVII

Suzuki and Hutson have been unreal. Adding Carrier and getting Guhle back is huge for their D
The Anderson / Dvorak / Gallagher line has also been on fire.

Dork has been garbage since he arrived there, but has been putting up points. Gallagher with 20 this season all of a sudden.

Remains to be seen if they keep it up, but they have an easy schedule and may get to rest some guys, as well.

Blues are a wagon.

12 wins in a row.

That’s a well managed team, no stars, Thomas notwithstanding, but always do well with trade, signings and draft

Picking in the back half of the 1st from 2020-2022 and have:

Neighbours - 26th
Bolduc - 17th
Snuggred - 23rd

3 guys who will play a large role right now drafted by a team that was already a top team in the league at the time in the back half of the 1st.
BINNINGTON 11-2 .906 or something since 4 Nations
And we all know how 2019 season ended
They are capable of everything

Habs are legit. It would take a monumental collapse for them to miss the playoffs. Getting 2010 vibes from that team where they knocked out the Caps in the first round.

If by legit you mean bottom 4 in the league in expected goal differential and lucking their way into the playoffs because of both unsustainable goaltending and finishing, then yeah I suppose they are legit.

Their game broadcast itself (camera, audio, etc) is beyond first rate. If it's first rate then TSN is like fifth rate. And no Ron MacLean makes it miles ahead of Sportsnet.
I like the TSN broadcast first and foremost. Camera make no difference to me, and I prefer Duffy/Pounder Hanna/Methot and then the colour/playbyplay over what Amazon does. They are second rate talent across the board.

I don’t like the HIC panel either, but as a Sens fan I never have.

Tomorrow night's game between Montreal and Detroit probably determines if the playoff race is over.

Detroit needs 6 points to overtake Montreal, since they probably end up with the RW tiebreaker. They have a head-to-head against Montreal and a game in hand. If they beat Montreal and beat Florida on the 10th, they would be 2 points away from overtaking Montreal with 4 games remaining for both.

If they lose to Montreal tomorrow, it is almost certainly over for them.

I can't see how the Rangers get back into it. It is only possible for Detroit because of the head-to-head "4 point" game with Montreal.

That Red Wings Downfall thread on the main boards is going to get even more interesting if they somehow manage to sneak into the playoffs. Not likely to happen but I'm seated for the pandemonium that might ensue. 😂

People complain about "tanking" but the Red Wings are a good example of what happens when you constantly miss the playoffs but almost never get top 5 picks, you can just never get the quality of players needed to improve significantly.

It’s a luck game, really. They bottomed out longer than Edmonton, Toronto, and Colorado , yet they don’t have a have a Matthews, McDavid, or Mackinnon. Hard to feel bad though, they’ve won 4 cups in my lifetime.

Hell, imagine if we didn’t get lucky with a San Jose meltdown and a lottery win.

Luck has a part to play sure, but they never really finished low enough expect in 2020.

I remember at the beginning of the year we played a game against the Rangers and we totally dominated them and lost. I think we had doubled them in shots and lost by a goal because of Shesterkin.

I went to the Rangers board to tell them how lucky they were to have a good goalie like Shesterkin, and that they will be deadly when their team gets going if they were getting wins despite not playing well at the time.

Most Rangers fans in that thread were saying that their team was playing horrible but winning despite getting dominated on most nights. At that time the Rangers were at the top of the Eastern Conference. Some posters were even saying that the Rangers were cooked. I think their record was something like 11-4. It seems like the Rangers board was right… the team was not good.

Crazy to think that they never really improved over the season despite adding JT Miller (Who’s probably their best player at this stage). That team really needs to be blown up. Major changes will be coming in the offseason. Starting with Zibanejad and Kreider. Many many players on that team play like prima donnas and aren’t putting the effort needed to play winning hockey.

I remember that as well. The mood was pretty resigned.

I actually attended that game at MSG.

I agree. Don't understand all the praise for Amazon's coverage. Better PQ is welcomed, as is the extra before and after for those that want that (not me), but I don't feel like there's much special beyond that.

The only question about the habs is how they will handle playoff hockey. They have a lot of smaller skill. Makes for a great regular season, but playoffs are a different beast.

They have Suzuki who played in the Cup final.

Also Caufield, Armia, Anderson, Gallagher, Evans and Jake Allen.

That's more experience in the core than we have.

We'll see. They are relying a lot on the playoff drive to generate that emotion for all of their comebacks.

With our Hamburglar run, it turned back into a pumpkin pretty quick once the level of play went up.
