Around the NHL — Episode XLXVII

Again, this is a take done in hindsight. Our "winger depth" at the time wasn't THAT good, basically just Brady and Batherson(this was before we sign Giroux), and the team wanted to get better immediately, not take on a cap dump so that we get a 1st we could maybe trade later.
But Cat would play LW after Brady and Dorion has to be a special type of stupid to think he'd get the same deployment/icetime that would get Cat to 40g again. At the time our PP was looking functional. Positionally he was just the wrong type of player at the time.

Not to mention his salary. His salary was wayyy higher than his caphit. His next deal would've also been taking more cap than what he'd be able to provide as our 2LW. It's like trying to recreate TML with all their money thrown at forwards.

If the 7th overall was thrown at Chychrun, it would've still made sense because at least we had a dire need for a other top 4 defender (even if Chychrun was a bad fit)

then there's also the human side of things, where Chychrun wanted to come to Ottawa, versus DeBrincat being lazy af.

I liked both trades at first. Then didn't like them...the next day. DeBricat was never going to sign here and Chychrun couldn't play his off side. All this was known to us, the fckn fans..not a GM, less than 24 hrs after the trades happened. HTF did Dorion not know? or ignore it and make the trades anyway? Fckn bullshit GM.

They are not the smurfs anymore. Pezzetta, Anderson and Xhekaj can throw it down.
You know who could throw em back in the day for the Sens? Redden. He only got mad once in a blue moon..but he always did well when it happened. Sleeper. Anderson is an Aragorn tough guy. Fake. Jackeye is a merchant, he jumps people. Pezzetta is the closest, but a middle weight. We have a couple sleepers. Spezza only got really pissed off about 3 games a season...and he played like a power forward those games. We have guys that can take the trio you speak off...they just have to be pushed. We will see if they make the playoffs this year and next year in the regular season. If Batherson snaps one game, somebody going to pay. That is what being in the playoffs builds for a team and translates to every game.

No idea where you are pulling this idea from...

Carter Hart (Exiled like Formenton)
Nolan Patrick (ravaged by injuries)
Morgan Frost (traded)
Noah Cates
Joel Farabee (traded)
Samuel Ersson
Cam York
Bobby Brink
Tyson Foerster
Emil Andrae
Cutter Gauthier (traded)
Matvei Michkov
Oliver Bonk
Jett Luchanko
Several other recent prospects

They didn't draft that high outside of Patrick and recently... Here's the earliest picks they had :

22, 2, 14, 19, 14, 23, 46, 5, 7, 13

It's not spectacular but outside of the Patrick pick, which was also a lot of bad luck, when they had the opportunity to draft high they didn't miss with Michkov (future superstar) and Gauthier (should be a high end player as well). Unfortunately for them, they had to trade him. Even several other mid first round picks (Farabee, York, Foerster, Bonk, Luchanko) don't look bad at all.
Get on Hockeydb.. see games played, performance.. I mean nothing.. See 2016-2023... I mean nothing

last year was the last year when their old guard held up. One year later, they are done, the new guys are called upon to lead.. AND nothing.

Just for reference.. MONITOR Winnipeg.... See Winnipeg in the 2026-2027.. Hello Phili. Their 2016-2023 draft is just as bad.

In fact open hockeydb. Go through the draft by team and you can easily see the reason for shit teams, versus mid table teams, versus top teams.

See Boston, see NYI, See Rangers, see Pittsburg, see the 4-5 bottom feeders out west. All are the same. piss poor drafts 2016-2023. By 2024/2025, the chickens come home to roost. Older players age out and "empty space" fills their spots. FAs and trades help a tad, but are not a real cure.

Winnipeg loaded up something incredible 2011-2015. That is what is sustaining them (the picks and trades resulting from those picks). But that will end soon. Sheifele and Lowery are 32..one to two more good years only.

True but those players won’t be on the ice when their power smurfs are. Our last game vs them need our top players to make Hutson and Cole pay the price when they touch the puck. Then we can go into rest mode for the final three game stretch.

Blech to the fractured rights. Watching the NBA is already a nightmare for Canada.

The more they try to force it from 1, to multiple paid services, the more they push me away to other options.

Has a chance to get a few more before the end of the season
Pretty good company

Been a secondary assist machine this season. 31 on the year, which is the second most in the league behind Bouchard, who's an even bigger fraud.

Both guys have racked up a lot of assists for handing off the puck. Bouchard in particular only has 12 primary assists and a whopping 33 secondary assists. Should be giving half of the massive contract he's about to get this summer to McDavid and Draisaitl, who are the players actually driving the offense.

Very impressive rookie year for Hutson, and he's a massive steal in the late 2nd for the Habs, but he hasn't been as good as the numbers suggest.

Last time I checked secondary assist count the same. Look at this setup:

Would be nice if they got rid of the blackouts. I get it on nights when the Sens are playing but who cares if people can watch another team on days you are not.

Was that one of the secondary assists I was referring to?

They count the same but primary assists on average are better than secondary assists, for obvious reasons.

Take a look at all the best offensive D in the league at their primary/secondary split and you'll see they have more primary assists, as they are the ones directly creating offense most frequently for their team, not benefiting from others doing it.
