Corrado on 1200 discusses picks
Apparently Brady will be on Team USA, and Sanderson is on the fringe, not sure when that gets announced though.
Konecky plays a grittier game well suited for a 4th line and is currently producing better too.Sucks Batherson didn’t make it when you see Konecky there - Torts has his players working the details, Ottawa not so much, that’s why Konekcubisnkn thee team and not Batherson and that’s why Philly is in a playoff spot snd Ottawa is 29th in the NHL
And has a better motor. Bath is a nice player but for that role I'd go with KonecnyKonecky plays a grittier game well suited for a 4th line and is currently producing better too.
Philly in a playoff spot, well, sort of. TBL have two games in hand to bump them right out, so I don't expect that to last.
Yeah. When Bath decides to use his size, he can be really effective, but it's just not his game so you only see it a couple times a year. Maybe in a short tournament, he might flip that switch, but there's no way of knowing, so I'd take Konecny too.And has a better motor. Bath is a nice player but for that role I'd go with Konecny
Anyone could tell we overpaid in that dealMeanwhile...

Thomas is coming off a broken ankle, I'm not sure if that's playing into the decision.Cirelli and Bennett being on the team is a joke, even if you want someone defensive. Robert Thomas and Nick Suzuki are better players than those two in every tangible aspect
Thomas had a nasty injury, but since he's come back he's been his usual self. A beast on the dot, scoring, and playing strong defensively and Suzuki can play all situations too, both are so much better suited on the bottom 6 to gain possession and shut down opposing lines.Thomas is coming off a broken ankle, I'm not sure if that's playing into the decision.
Cirelli is having a really strong season, as is Bennett, both are pt per game, and Bennett adds a lot of grit. I don't see any issue with them on the team given the role they'll be playing.

You need guys that can play different roles and different brands of hockey in these best on best tournamentsThomas is coming off a broken ankle, I'm not sure if that's playing into the decision.

What does the bolded even mean lol? Bennett can't play bottom 6 effectively considering how bad he is defensively. He's a -5 on a team that has a +11 goal differential and tied for 3rd worst on his team among forwards, isn't good on the dot, and the Panthers have a negative goal differential when he's on the ice. Such an odd choice.Cirelli is maybe the best penalty killer in the game so for sure he deserves to be there.
And Bennett just has such a good cell for the temperature of a game, also deserves to be there.
Those guys bring more jam than suzuki.. I like him as a player just like I like Batherson but if you want guys that can really check and grind they picked better players for thatBeing on good teams that win more than they lose could be a factor too. Suzuki being on such a shit basement team can't help his case. Almost every player on that roster is on a winning team.
The counterpoint to that argument is that Suzuki and Thomas are leading their teams in PP TOI/g, while Bennett and Cirelli are on the 2nd units, sometimes being on worse teams gives you more opportunity than you'd otherwise get to produce.Being on good teams that win more than they lose could be a factor too. I agree but does it have to be a defensive specialist from Tampa? I am old enough to remember when we took Rob Zaumner from Tampa to the olympics as a defensive specialist... I think I have PTSD from that stillYou need guys that can play different roles and different brands of hockey in these best on best tournaments
this is an old article with comments from the players in the 1987 Canada cup which to me was as good as hockey gets in that 3 game series vs Russia
Fair point, just a thought. The counterpoint to that argument is that Suzuki and Thomas are leading their teams in PP TOI/g, while Bennett and Cirelli are on the 2nd units, sometimes being on worse teams gives you more opportunity than you'd otherwise get to produce.
Cirelli is a point per game right now,, Zamner had what, 26 pts the year we brought him to the olympics?I agree but does it have to be a defensive specialist from Tampa? I like what Cirelli brings (this year) but I am leery of Guys brought for their defense only. Despite a great start this year, Cirelli's best year ever was last year at 45 points. Zaumner when he went to the Olympics was coming off his best year ever of 50 points and a great world championship the previous spring.Cirelli is a point per game right now,, Zamner had what, 26 pts the year we brought him to the olympics?
