Around the NHL — Episode XLXVII

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Also ahead of Perfetti (10OA) projected at 51 pts, 1 behind Jarvis (13OA) projected at 64, 2 behind Peterka (34OA) at 65

A lot of teams missed on Peterka .. none more than the Sens.. Would love to hear why they passed on him

Yeah I wanted Rossi too. Great little player.

3 players from Carolina in that top 10. I guess 2 after they traded Necas lol.
Rod the Bod has everyone doing next level workouts to make sure they're speedy on the ice. If Carolina fires him, hope he comes here as an assistant coach. We might even bring back the stationary bike post game interviews!

This comment is so rude. Lmao! "Who's a good little poster? Icelevel is! Yes you are. You're so good at posting." How do you like it? JC ...I can't stop laughing right now. Help me!
You know we only draft players 6’4” and up. Might as well have some fun with it.
Thank you though. I am a good little poster. My mommy agrees.

If Brind'amour ever leaves Carolina he will have another head coaching job within a few days. It will be a copy of when Montgomery left the Bruins...

Pretty wild that every major move the Oilers made this off-season blew up in their face.

Traded McLeod for Savoie, didn't re-sign Foegele and let Broberg and Holloway get poached by St. Louis for a 2nd+3rd.

12.471M ended up being the cost for those 4 players, but had they offered Broberg and Holloway fair extensions instead of trying to get them to accept pennies on the dollar for the priviledge of playing on a potential contender, I suspect they could have got that down to closer to 10-11M and avoided the offersheets altogether.

Instead they spent 11.75M on veterans Skinner, Arvidsson, Henrique and Klingberg, who have a combined 68 points in 194 games (29P/82GP average).

Meanwhile the 4 younger players they let go have a combined 162 points in 266 games (50P/82GP average).

Got much older and much worse. The Dorion special.

RNH stepped up with McDrai out, but if the Oil somehow choke and don't make the playoffs, the Jeff Skinner curse will be beyond real. Arvidson, Henrique, Janmark, each have NMCs as well. That Nurse contract will forever stop them from being able to put together a reliable D core. Then again, if McDrai just score their way to victory, it doens't matter how many plugs they have on defense.

Matching the signing sheets was an obvious choice, but I agree if they had been smart, they could have had them for less.

Both of them played well in the Cup Finals! Very odd at the time and now it has major implications.

I couldn't believe they let Holloway go. You could see on that run that he had the juice. Idiotic imo.

Also thought they made a mistake re-upping Pickard and not aggressively pursuing lankinen with him just sitting there. At least get a guy you think can be a threat if you need to go there. Pickard is that perennial backup, low ceiling type tender.

Still have high hopes for that team though, I think it'll come together and I'm hoping so. Still my B team.

I think I’d rather have Dorion.

Bowman is an absolute moron and the poster boy for nepotism hires, but to be fair most of the moves the Oilers made last off-season were the work of McDavid's agent Jeff Jackson.

Broberg and Holloway were lost to the Blues after Bowman took over, but there wasn't much that Bowman could do at that point after being backed into a corner due to the Skinner, Arvidsson and Henrique signings eating up all of their cap space.

Yeah I could understand letting Broberg go, given 4.5M was far more than he should have gotten with his track record at the time, but 2.3M for Holloway was completely fair and a 3rd round pick as compensation is nothing.

That was also a bit of an unprecedented play by the Blues, granted, they should have matched after and picked up the pieces. Lots of teams play hardball with RFA's, so I still expected them to sign. They'd each barely had a cup of coffee.

I'm hopeful that Staios took note and that's why he got Greig locked up, and maybe even factored into dealing for Zetterlund - another guy that should fall into that same Greig-esque range and has the potential to contribute offensively. Perron is (finally) looking like a good addition. Question remains though what will become of Giroux, he's not a full-time top-6 player anymore...bring him back on the 3rd/4th line with PP time? Add a top-6 winger?
