Around the League

Absolutely loved the Chicago fans s***ting all over Seth Jones. He's been +4, 1g, 1A and has the most minutes on the ice against a Lightning team that led the league in scoring.
Just hope people realize that Ekblad is that bad that they went out and gambled on Seth Jones. It's paying off but yeah, Panthers fans just call Ekblad a cone and super slow. I cringe anytime I see him on the Wings free agent target articles or posts.

Jones at $7M is stupid good value. I'd have traded a '26 1st for him. But to add... there's no chance in hell Jones waives his NMC for us. Only reason he's a hockey player is because his dad played for the Nuggets after the Avs came to town. A kid that grew up in that rivalry isn't going to go play for the enemy.

I think he is a likely signing with Windsor roots. He is slow but physical, he also is generally looked at favorably as a leader as well. People might want to start stomaching this possibility…

leafs vs sens is a win/ win. either sens get eliminated or the circus of the leafs being an embarrassment for like the 8th year in a row.
The only possible down-side is that this way one of them is guaranteed to win a round, which I absolutely disapprove of. But ah well, the guaranteed schadenfreude either way far outweighs that 😝

Marc-Andre Fleury's career is done. Anyone else think he is massively overrated, so many playoff disasters, only one Cup win as a starter, and lost the starting job on every team he played for.

How could the #2 in all time games played and #2 in all time wins, 3 time Stanley Cup champion, Vezina winner, and all around good guy be massively overrated? Maybe if you called him the greatest player of all time, then yeah. But nobody is doing that, so you do you boo.

Well he stuck around for quite some time and was fortunate to play on some good teams. I'm not a big fan of Osgood, but I'm actually not sure Fleury was a better goalie. But i guess he had a better career, that's for sure

You just kinda demonstrated how he is by listing some achievements without context.

Fleury is a good goalie who has played a long time on very good teams. Among his many achievements, Fleury holds the record for fewest starts by a Vezina winner with 36. That Vezina was a lifetime achievement award for a very likable guy in a soft year and probably should've gone to Vasilevsky or Varlimov if I remember correctly.

One cup as a starter. Lots of wins, yes, but he was on some really good teams. For me when I look back, was there ever a time where he would have been considered a top 5 goalie in the league? I don't think so.

His Vezina season.

You mean the shortened season where he played 35 games and legend Philip Grubauer was also a Vezina finalist? Oh, and Vegas traded him that same Summer because they wanted to keep Lehner instead.

His Vezina season.

and he finished top 5 in Vezina voting two more times in Vegas too on top of that those 4 years he was there, with a couple good Playoff runs in there as well, he fell apart pretty quick after leaving but he was 37 by then

i'd be a lot more on board with this "actually Fleury sucked" stuff without his Vegas years, as it is he had some ups and downs for sure and isn't competing for like a top 5-10 all time spot or anything like that but taking everything into account I do think he at least clearly belongs in the hall of fame

saying he "lost the starting job on every team he played for" is also wildly misleading considering he literally won the Vezina his last year in Vegas

I don’t see people putting MAF high on the list of HHOF goalies often. He is absolutely a HHOF goalie though.

Definitely in the HHoF as a compiler. And as a goalie it is no small feat to be in the league as long as he has. You have to be good to hold a starting job that long.

For me Fleury is in the good but never great and occasionally awful category.

I'm sensing a pattern here...

I will say I can't object to him being inevitably being inducted into the Hall. Once he got that Vezina (regardless of what context you want to throw at it) it became not a matter of if but when he would be inducted. But because he is a personable guy who happened to share a locker room with a couple of the best players in the world for most of his career he gets a weird reputation around here and seemingly more credit than I think is warranted.

Also his 2018 final performance was abysmal.
