We need to get mentally ready for the unthinkable: an Oilers- Leafs final

I'm actually okay with Toronto in the finals.

One, they've suffered for years and given us plenty of memes. Two, they have Tanev. I can't cheer against Tanev.

Besides, if it does end up being being a Oilers/Leafs final, we can at least enjoy the two fanbses eating each other on the main boards. I dunno which will be worse bitching about the refs.

Am I an outlier in actually being OK* with the Oilers winning instead of the Leafs in that hypothetical scenario?

I thought about it and if it were the Leafs, we would have it shoved down our throats 24/7 for a calendar year and then be reminded about it daily for the rest of our lives. Because our family and friends who don't follow the NHL but know you do, would bring it up with you at every sports conversation.

Hell, the Canucks could go on to unleash a historic dynasty immediately thereafter, but half the credit would go to the Leafs for "breaking the curse". I swear by that.

(*In this context, being OK means "not wanting to abandon Canada to live an ascetic life in Tibet away from the Canucks and hockey punditry")

Oilers win it only because of Podkolzin. I hope he holds the cup up and screams "F U Tocchet" in Russian.
He got on the scoreboard with 1+1 but it still is weird that he’s such a bit player (9+ minutes of ice time which was more than 2 full minutes lower than the next low man on the totem pole amongst Oilers forwards) considering all of the tools he seems to have to work with and given his age (turns 24 next month).

He's gonna Nichuskin it and blow up soon probably. Nich didn't break out till he was 26. Podz is only 23 and has another season at 1M. He rode shotgun with two of the top players in the league and still only had 26 points in 79 games. Would have much rather had Podz over Daniel Sprong or a 4th round pick though.

As much as I dislike even the thought of and Oilers cup win, the skill McDavid displayed in that game winner was purely amazing.
Bouchard made a great play on Stone. Stone, not being fast wasn't able to get to the loose puck along the boards and caught out positioned by Bouchard who run it hard around the boards.

Perry played the pucked off his stake and gave a nice backhand pass to McDavid who was coming up with speed.

McDavid, had Eichel one on one and destroyed him. Can't say I'd expect it to turn out different had it been Eichel coming in on McDavid the same way. Faked him outside and cut inside of him. As a F or D, always protect the inside vs outside.

Leon, I initially thought it hit the post with how the puck came flying out. But, he got it just inside the post.

I don't remember whether this was talking about much at the start of the season, but yeah. Betting on Podkolzin building on his fundamentally decent but conservative game may have been more sensible than hoping Sprong would suddenly stop doing the things that keep getting him kicked out of organizations after putting up huge offensive numbers per 60.

Podkolzin sucks. He's the lucky recipient of some playoff points. He was brutal in the regular season and barely gets a shift out there on team McDrai.

9 minutes. Any minimum wage bum could be there.

People are quite revisionist after the fact around here. Pods wasn't making the team. He had plenty of chances and showed very little. We attempted to put some new players in at forward like all teams do and of course it's super easy to say now that we should have kept so and so instead of Sprong or Heinen.

You can do this every year after the season is done and nitpick what should have been done. Bottomline I still wouldn't take him back for free. We have no room for him whatsoever. He's shown nothing more than the nothing he did here. I was a big supporter of Pods in the past but he simply didn't perform up to standards and still isn't doing much.

To repeat myself, Sprong had already been bounced from multiple teams for exactly the same reason he left the Canucks. My argument is that betting on a young player was a better idea than hoping that would change. I'm not saying it's an idea I or anyone else here had at the time and I am not revising an opinion I or anyone else expressed, although presumably some people did.

If you told me before last season that we would miss the playoffs and Miller would be traded for scraps while EP40 turned into a shell of himself, resulting in Rick Tocchet leaving the team and interviewing with the Boston Bruins at the same time the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs went on deep playoff runs, I would accuse you of writing Canucks hater fan fiction
Look on the bright side, Boston did not get the 1OA when they missed the playoffs

Aha, I should read slower I guess. I think teams should try to get better and that's what they did with Sprong. The NHL is limited in what players are available. I was done with Pods myself. Of course you look right now but we could have also missed out on a 20 goal scorer while Pods pissed away the season again.

I was excited for a talented player like Sprong too.

I can't wait for the leafs to be up 3-0 in the cup finals... I am actually here for it. then I can't wait for Dallas to come back and have Ratanan go off.

If the Canucks had traded for Rantanen, he'd be injured on some nothing play or an incredibly dirty, cheap shot that went unpunished.

Am I doing this right? #canucks#season#

Come on now, we know there's no "if" since we never get guys like Rantanen through trades or UFA.

Best case scenario is either your DeBrusk's that come with a creepy stalker or Granlund who will probably sign and immediately regress into a grinder.

I don't know, it seems the way this team has of punishing its fan base, plays in Extremes. Up 3 - 0 against the Wild with the best first line in the league, the Sedins on the third line and a mobile and punishing defence including the likes of prime Ohlund and Jovo, and suddenly your number 1, 30 plus game winning goalie can't stop a beach ball.

Never mind Bertuzzi's later melt down which precipitated another in a long line of re-tools, and arguably the only one that actually worked.

Yet somehow, this season may topped that crap-fest. Yummy
