Probably more than fair. We probably know a lot less than we think about most things.

Concussions . . .

First, it does not require a hit to the head to cause a concussion. Any hit which can cause the head to snap about can cause a concussion, although obviously less likely, the kind of hits (ie. no to the head) occur more frequently, so it certainly should not be ignored

Second, I haven't seen the shot that went off Seeingstarz mask - while any puck to the mask could potentially cause a concussion, people need to realize that the the goalie mask is designed as a wedge - pucks are meant to deflect off it, redirecting the energy away from the skull (ie. maintaining energy in the puck deflected at speed into the corner). However, right in the middel of the forehead of the goalie mask is a (basically) flat spot, take a puck there and there is essentially no wedge/deflection effect and the full brunt of the impact will go to the mask - and skull. This will also happen with shots to other parts of the mask if the goalie's head is turned, and the puck catches the side of the mask perpindicular

Third, I thought there was vid of Stolz giving a phantom handshake. A competent spotter would have noticed this and required a check. Not sure that this happened, would be pleasantly shocked out of my underpants if it was both noticed and the check was done. Obviously if the check was done, they effed it up

Fourth, when I payed hockey in the '70's and '80's, elbow pads had a hard piece of plastic within them, and then softer padding on the outside. However almost all the elbow pads I see on the store shelves for the past few decades have the hard plastic (or whatever the eff material) on the outside of the elbow pad making them a weapon. Why the rulebook allows this in not beyond me, I realize that the hockey people responsible for this make idiotic decisions more often than I can fart

And I eat a lot of beans

Just pointing out that it wasn't a phantom handshake but a headshake.

I'm not entirely convinced that's actually a thing in this case since goalies shake their head all the time after putting their mask back on to readjust it. I do think that the shot he took to the mask probably did something.

I am looking at percentages...

How many hits happen in a game and how many players get concussions from them?
Hits sure, blindside elbows to the head in my non expert opinion cause much more concussions than goalies being hit by pucks.
The point really is the framing of it is pretty stupid. Any hit to the head can cause a concussion, I have had one from being hit in the head with a puck (I played goal at the time) and another two from being body checked as a player. It can happen both ways.
I'm sorry you have had so many brain injuries, I hope you havent had any long term issues from it

You had the chance to use parish instead to keep it going. I am disappointed.

Also, Stone with 2 early goals.
Amazing how awful they look against a proper well rounded team.

Does Bruce Cassidy shorten the bench now? :sarcasm:

No lead is safe against the Oilers. Whether that's in a game or in a series.

The INSANE level of confidence they must feel knowing they have human cheat codes in McDavid and Draisaitl, who can literally create goals out of thin air in a moments notice.

It's not even McDrai creating goals.

McDrai is incredibly taxing to defend against. You take your best players out of the equation in a series trying to defend against them.

I don’t understand why Rick didn’t just stack the lines like he did last year—with the Miller-Boeser-Pettersson line—the way Edmonton has been doing with McDavid and Draisaitl for the past eight years. Why? Why was he so stubborn about giving Pettersson grinders as linemates? Why didn’t Rick deploy our top line for the full two-minute powerplay, like Edmonton does? The more I think about this, the happier I am that Rick Tocchet is gone.

Miller did an excellent job defending McDavid last year in the playoffs.

He was....but Miller along with the team were completely out of gas by Game 6 and 7. The key to beating the Oilers in a 7 game series is to go up 3-0.

Pettersson and Miller had zero chemistry after the 2020 bubble.
